i cant even pretend if i dont like someone...
yesterday, i had to do some work at my archery club.
this one guy was running around like he was CEO, barking out orders..he had a bad-arse stihl pole saw i was dying to try, he saw me and said, "dont touch my saw, it needs SPECIAL fuel". wtf?, i replied, more special than premix? you run AvGas or what? he looked at me, and i turned and walked away before he could reply. he spent the day yelling at everyone, he cut down a huge tree we didnt need to cut down...just a douchebag. after everyone got tired of his crap, he changed tactics and tried to get a "following"..he tried to befriend me. i couldnt even keep a straight face..damn, i cant pretend. btw, my ECHO chainsaw out cut every Stihl out there. i bet my chain was fresher than anyone else's..but my small 16" bar, was the MVP. until the range president grabbed my saw and threw the chain being retarted.

That's my wife. If she doesn't like someone, it's written all over her face and in her voice. If I say something about it later, she invariably thinks that she was trying to hide it.
Hey, not necessarily anything wrong with that, it's honest, right? I can go either way. If I don't like someone, but I need to work with them, I can be decent. Maybe not great, but decent enough. But, if I don't like someone, and they feel attached to me for some reason, and I don't feel like I need to be nice. Yeah, I can be a major bastard. Weirdly enough, sometimes that seems to endear me to them even more.

Often, it's not about the saw, it's about the chain on the saw.

Absolutely.
Power is power, but cutting a chain is art. If you want fast, grind the drags down to take a .10 cut. There are guys who will take the drags clear out, but one snag and you'll kill the engine. Always use a .325 chain, put about a 20 degree angle on the undercut of the tooth. The rest is pretty much up to the operator. You have to anticipate the load on the engine before it happens and keep the RPM in the expansion chamber's sweet spot. If you're just cutting and not competing, keep the cutters even on both sides, keep the drags at about .035, and make sure the rails on the bar are at the same height. Do this and you'll be fine.

You know that noise the adults always made in the Charlie Brown cartoons? That's what I heard when I read the post about the chain sharpening. I must assume that sharpening a chainsaw chain must be terribly tedious.

Wohnt wont wohhn won wohhn.
Back in the olden days, I'd have to sharpen the chain 3 times a day with a little rat tail file. Good to go. |

Rofl. I was still trying to figure out why Cliff was playing with chainsaws at the archery club.

In my advancing years, I have become far less tolerant of the blow-hards, ego cases, power trippers or those that use bravado in place of expertise.
The other day, I was helping a friend do some recording in his studio. "Rock-Star Guy" (not my friend) was the one with the agenda and the plan. I get all the mics setup, the computer up and running and am waiting for him to make some noise to check levels and get things going. Well, the Rock-Star had issues with this and issues with that and basically did not want to use our built in computer and DAC, he wanted to use his own, not as good, hardware. But it took him 30+ minutes to get around to saying that. He would not come out and say "I want to do this.". He talked around the bush in "I am not sure about this" and "I am not sure about that" all while being passive-aggressive in trying to get things done the way he wanted. I've got no tolerance for that so I hooked things up as he wished, made sure it worked and left. As a good friend (who also cannot stand the "Rock-Star") says "I do not need to be part of your bad trip."
