Underage Male Arrested for DUI Following Incident at Mayport Gate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Asking about the toll cost was enough to indicate he might have been impaired, but what a local 20-year-old did next landed him in jail.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Daniel Andres Nieto drove to the security gate at Naval Station Mayport shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday and asked the guard how much the toll was.

The guard told him where he was and requested that Nieto turn around.

Instead, he told police, Nieto accelerated through the gate, so the guard activated the security barrier that rises from the ground.

Nieto crashed into the barrier, then got out of his car and started running. He didn't get far.

After his arrest, he told the officer he had been at Mellow Mushroom, and had "a couple," which he later upped to "three."

He also said he had "pregamed" at home, having another beer.

The officer tested Nieto for impairment and arrested him.

Nieto is charged with DUI causing damage to property, DUI and careless driving.
