Crappy Dentist Visit Redux

Well, this is the first time I have posted about it but it's the second visit I have had to this dentist and had this hygienist. I don't have trouble in the dentist chair but with this woman she provides me with pain I have never felt before.

It was horrible. Now I think I have decent teeth and have had very few cavities. I didn't have my first until I was in my mid-30s which was pretty recent, I have 2.

I also have braces right now so I know that makes things more difficult. Prior to going in for a cleaning I stop at my Ortho and they remove all the wires and what not so the hygienist can get in there.

Now, prior to these last two times I was seeing a young woman hygienist across the street and she was incredibly gentle, I could fall asleep in the chair with her cleaning my teeth. I left because I had trouble getting appointments - I think I will probably just try to go back.

This most recent experience - both of them - the hygienist used this sonic water tool on me and I f'ing HATE that thing. It's like constantly being stabbed in the gums and it makes this high pitched whine that I'm sure any dogs within a 10 mile radius can here. I HATE THAT THING and after today do not think I will allow it near my mouth again. Hopefully these braces will be off soon and I'm sure that will make things better as well.

Again, I've always been comfortable in the dentist's chair - always had really good experiences and I try to take good care of my teeth. These last two cleanings have been nightmares however...

Anyone know what that damned sonic tool is? I asked her about it the first time I Saw it and she looked at me like I had two heads for not having seen one before. She also was constantly trying to sell me on an electric toothbrush.

She won't be getting her hands in my mouth again.

The hygenist I used to go to had rather large breastz and she had a tendency to kinda lean over too far and rest em on my shoulder or head for balance. I hated that.
Didn't much notice iffn she used a water pick er anything else for that matter. She coulda used a 90 pound jackhammer And I wound'ta noticed.
She moved away, anuther of life's tragedies.

So I guess the moral of the story is, find a "more gifted" hygenist.

I've been going to the same dentist for about 8 years, last time was not so pleasant..The whole staff had changed and told me the old staff wasn't cleaning my teeth and gums good enough, nor were they billing me correctly..I've never had a cavity in 43 years...I didn't like the bad mouthing of the old staff or the NEW billing..
I now take more time to brush my teeth and I'll see how that goes without stressing over Dentist....

BTW: I''m a big fan of the Sonic toothbrush...

Its called an ultrasonic scaler. Go back to your old dentist, they have earned your business. Simply preschedule your next 6 month cleaning as you leave the office from your current cleaning.

i have a man-crush on my dentist..simply for not putting me in pain. he is old school and his tools reflect that. i have gone under that sonic thing and it is not comfortable. my dentist is so old school, he actually does all his own work. no hygenist doing anything. he opens up a sealed packages of picks, and goes to town. my discomfort is directly proportional to my 6-month commitment to flossing. i do my part, and his part is a cakewalk.

my FIL has gone to a hack. get this, he got a root canal on all of his teeth. ones that didnt even hurt. sorta a preemptive strike against toothpain. all in one year..the insurance was done and he put out $20k out of pocket. i mentioned this to my dentist, and he was stunned. he said, a dentist shouldnt treat a tooth unless it is in pain. or damaged.

Cool story and I had a similar experience when I was about twelve or so. I had braces and the assistant was a really cute gal about 26 or so. She had to brace herself against my head to work on the braces and would mash her boobs right into my face...I was in heaven. I wonder if she enjoyed the tease as much as I did

I had a Dentist I went to in the City of orange for a while (for Sammy's sake) while I was working down there a few years ago.

He was old school too - did his own work. He was 'Larry Bird' huge, huge hands but again - I cannot describe how gentle he was without making you assume I'm talking about something else entirely. It was great and I was disappointed to give him up when I left that job (50 miles from home and all).

My wife actually goes to this guy that I have been seeing and she worked to get me in there but she doesn't really care if I continue. The other thing that I hate is that it is in Venice and parking is a bit of a challenge. It's like they have meter maids stationed at every meter waiting to give tickets.

Wife of a dentist friend of mine (he's a periodontist) had all her teeth capped at once. Cost about 30 grand and they had to get a second mortgage to pay for it even with the prof. courtesy discount. The kicker is that the caps were made wrong and all her teeth turned black from drinking red wine. Sadly she died of a brain tumor before it was all resolved.

Funny..............................My wife is a surgical (oral) assistant - she is 5' 2" with double D's and I think very attractive. I often ask her how many men she 'teased' that day by leaning over them!

I incur great pain even with the old school tools. For some reason I am most sensitive to pointy things poking me in the teeth/gums area. To help with that I request the hygenist apply a topical numbing agent to my gums and teeth prior to cleaning. While I still feel it, it is bearable, even using the sonic water jet tool thingy.

Also, though very few actually do so, making an honest effort at proper brushing and flossing will minimize the build-up and as my dentist tells me, minimize the need for using the dreaded sonic water jet. However with the case of braces, I am sure that such is almost impossible. Another possibility to consider is while braces are present, perhaps getting a cleaning say 3 times instead of 2 times a year may ensure the build-up is manageable with the old school tools.

mikester, do you floss? They hate it when you don't floss (they have to work harder to get the plaque off) and then take it out on you with PAIN, it's their only recourse.
