Son's Friend has Muscular Dystrophy, MD Could Use Our Help...
One of our Son's closest friends has Muscular Dystrophy. I don't normally soliticit but it is for a very good cause. Harrison is a great kid - very brave. He has been friends with our Son since pre-school. He is a Boy Scout with our Son.
The following is a note he sent out to a bunch of us. Give it a read and do what you think is best... It is me Harrison (H-Man)! Wow! It has already been another year since my last message to you! As some of you already know we have moved the date and changed the name for our MDA walk this year. It is the MDA “Muscle Walk” and it is Saturday March 5th to help "Jerry's Kids®". Along with the cool new name we are also walking again at the awesome “Cowboy Stadium” this year. I can’t wait to see you all again to walk with me on my team “H-Man Strong.” There are a couple of ways you can support my team. You can make a donation online at the link below and/or you can walk with my team “H-Man Strong” at Cowboy Stadium on Saturday March 5th. Actually, it is more like a pep rally than a walk. It encourages me and makes me happy to see all my friends there in support of me & my fight against MD. For some of you that don’t know already, I have Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy. My symptoms are a ridged neck, lower back and heel cords. I didn’t have it in my elbow (yeah). Having a bent/ridged elbow is typical in this form of MD so this makes me non-typical (good). Also we have to check on my heart every year. There is a good chance that I could have some heart issues & will have to get a pacemaker put in sometime during my teenage years. Who knows since I am non-typical maybe I won’t have any heart issues. The good thing with being diagnosed is that I can qualify for any trials or studies if they become available. The bad thing is that it is a pretty rare form of MD and not that much is being done for it right now. My dad is working on getting some special studies done for my form of MD and we’ll let you know about it once it is ready. Did you know that your donations to MDA helps kids like me get wheelchairs, go to camp and most importantly fund the research to hopefully find a cure someday? I hope to include you or your Company on my list of contributors this year who are helping me reach my goal of $5,000 for the 2010 Stride & Ride. Your donation would help me and MDA continue the important fight against Muscular Dystrophy. Check out my web page by clicking on the link at the end of this e-mail and feel free to pass this along to your friends and family. There you'll find a picture of me, all kinds of information about MDA, and be able to make your tax-deductible donation on-line using your credit card. I really hope that you'll take the time to support me and MDA. If you also want to be a part of my Muscle Walk team “H-Man Strong” the walk, it is on Saturday March 5th at “Cowboy Stadium” in Arlington, TX. Please meet inside the Stadium between 8-8:15am at the West plaza – Entrance H. This entrance off Randall Mill Rd. Please park in lot 8 or 10. FYI: Parking is Free. If you want a personal map to Cowboys Stadium go to dallascowboysmaps.com. Look for our Green “H-Man Strong” signs. Please be there on time so we can get our team photo. The walk will start at 9:00am and should be over around 10:15am. It is indoors so no need to worry about the weather. If you want to attend please e-mail my Mom Kim at kim@selfopportunity.com or call 214-718-2918 so she will know to look for you and how many team goodies to bring. Thanks for your support from the “H-Man Strong Team”, H-Man (Harrison Self) To make a donation for Harrison’s Team “H-Man Strong”, please CLICK HERE https://www.joinmda.org/MyWalkHub/MyHomepage/tabid/184601/Participant/kim/Default.aspx. For the record, nobody here is helping the kid in question. They're giving money to a tax-exempt corporation, who then fritters it away on more fund raising expenses, administrative expenses, etc. Then some of it gets parceled out for "research" and "education" but at the end of the day, junior doesn't really see any benefit, and is just an unwitting pawn in the money game.
