Went for a run this morning

I have not ran since the day I left the Marine Corps (almost 10 years). Woke up this morning at 6 and decided I was going for a run. Ended up doing just under 3 miles. I forgot how good it felt to just go and run. Was pretty winded at the end but had a big smile on my face and felt very relaxed. Work is stressful, twin 1 1/2 year old boys at the house, etc. It was nice to get some quiet me time. I am going to have to keep this up. That is all, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Hear hear. Or "+1" in internet-speak, I suppose. I started running again last summer, and I love it. There's nothing like getting out in the fresh air and pushing yourself for a bit. It's less pleasant in the cold -- I ran home through the snow a few weeks ago -- but it's really nice on pleasant spring days.

Keep it up.

Dan

I'm over 60 and run 5+ 3x's a week in the winter, summers I prefer a bicycle, nothing clears the cobwebs like working up a good sweat.

If you are picking it up after a bit of a layoff, start slow, both with pace and distance. Stretch more than you think you need to, trust and believe this will prevent a lot of problems.

Congratulations on hitting the road!
One bit of advice - get good shoes and pay close attention to your body. Don't ignore pain.
Out of ignorance I ran with so-so shoes for years and my feet and knees made up for the lack of support. At 58 my feet had had enough. A $450 pair of shoes got me through my last marathon, but now nothing helps. I hobble around like a penguin some days.

With you being an ex-Maraine I'm sure it brought back memories of the good ol days!
I was trying to get in shape and ended up with 2 hernias. Hopefully after their fixed I can try again!
