My son would freak out to the sound of tape being pulled off the roll when he was 2.
Mine too, but a little younger. He really wigged out!

and here I thought we had covered everything on Pelican..

My oldest sister cringes and genuinely gets freaked out by real silver tableware. She tells us her teeth tingle when she gets close to an item. We usually "get her" at least one family meal a year.

My son has trouble with some loud noises. We were in a BK a few weeks ago, waiting for our orders, when the deep fryer beepers activated. He covered his ears like it was the most excruciating pain in the universe.

Very few sounds bother me. Fingernails on the chalkboard and styrofoam don't bother me. (The dissonant, double-tracked vocals used Country music do feel like someone is taking a drill to my eardrums though.)

This one is really weird. The thing that absolutely sends shivers down my spine...the thing I've absolutely dreaded since I was very young...is putting on cotton socks after cutting my fingernails. I have to cut my nails after putting on socks, and not put on another pair for the rest of the day. I usually get by by cutting my nails before going to bed. The next morning, I'll be fine.

Folding cardboard...
Drives me nuts. (Mind you it is a pretty short drive in a fast car)

Have him chew on some aluminium foil, it'll take his mind off the folding paper.

For me it is dirt/sand being on ceramic and something heavy dragged across. Think bits of sand on a washer and the heavy detergent box being dragged across.

The styrofoam doesn't affect me, but I can understand people being affected. My ex-wife had issues with the fork and teeth thing. I have nver heard about the paper folding sound affecting people.

Oh yeah, that will do it. Or stick his tongue on a nine volt battery. Kind of a sadistic fun though waiting for the. zzz.

One of my boys does this too. Anything even a little bit loud hands fly up to his ears. Any power tool, even a quiet one like a jig saw on wood (Pinewood derby last week ;-) ) is earmuffs. Thunder is even more of a thing- earmuffs on to go to sleep. I wonder about it sometimes but he's 10 now and seems otherwise OK.

It seems to be a trait of kids within the Autism spectrum. My son has Aspberger's so we have come to respond quickly when it happens. I believe that it depends on the frequency and decibel level as to how much it bothers him. We live close to the fire hall and the siren doesn't bother him at all.

Power tools don't bother him, either.

At least we know that he most likely WON'T be working fast food in the future.
