Best debut album of all time?

I don't remember such a thread before...

My pick is Boston. Strangely, I just searched and found 3 different lists of the top 100 debut albums of all time, and Boston wasn't even on any of the lists. WTF? Opinions aside, it's the second best selling debut album of all time.

As soon as I read the title of the thread, one word instantly popped into my head. BOSTON. Then I opened the thread and saw I wasn't the only one who thought that way.

Boston has stiff competition, I'd say. At least half the time, a band's first album is also their best. Led Zeppelin I. Please Please Me. The Cars. Etc.

"Best" or "most popular"?

How about a real game-changer - In the Court of the Crimson King launched a whole new genre of music. I think that's pretty good...

Ok, agree on Boston.

Zeppelin l, Appetite for Destruction

While not his debut it may as well have been, Frampton Comes Alive.

It was so good it killed his career.

Tough call between Van Halen and Led Zep for greatest debut albums. Appetite is a close second. I thought they'd recorded Lies first, but didn't release it until later.

LZ 1 is it

Jimi Hendrix, SRV, The Ramones, Boston, The Cars, The Doors, Roxy Music, King Crimson, G'n'R all had strong debuts too.

I dunno. There are better Led Zep albums than the first one. II, IV and Houses make the hair on my arms stand up more than I does.

I remember sitting in the loft of a boat house looking out over a lake and listening to that record all night. I might have been a little stoned.
