Speeding question...

Say I was going 82 in a 60 in Texas.

How much would the fine run? I can't seem to find any info on the web.

And no this wasn't me. There was no way I could speed with the fog we had today...

In many states there's a certain point where speeding stops being speeding and they start to call it "reckless driving", which is code for "hold onto your ass", and words like "license suspension" and "mandatory court appearance" come into the conversation.

Yeah that's what I am trying to figure out. Hopefully it is not 20 mph and it's more like 25.

I think the problem is that it'll be different depending upon where the ticket was written. I I could be wrong, but I don't think fines are standard state wide. Even if the person was "in Houston", was it a constable, hpd, sheriff, etc....

I always ask for deferred disposition/adjudication. It'll cost about the same amount as the ticket, but when its done, it's as if the ticket never happened. Def driving class leaves the ticket on your record, but you don't show any points.

which I don't understand. I know people that have gone to jail because of warrants issued for ignoring tickets. Screw that. I take care of my tickets.

Yeah, pretty much every speeding ticket vie ever gotten has involved the cop telling me something like, "I clocked you going X, but I only wrote the ticket for Y."

Can you still drink a beer in TX while driving? So I've heard anyway.

Yup, I see that as nothing more than maintaining revenue generation. They know that the only thing we really care about is our insurance premiums. They want us keep speeding.

Yep, they get their money, and my insurance stays the same.

I talked to my ins. agent about the raising of my insurance costs after I got a ticket about 2 years ago. He told me that it should not affect the rates and that the ins. companies in Texas are not notified of speeding tix in the same manner as other states. Is this true? My rates didn't go up afterwards. YMMV.

They may not be notified, but I think that when you renew a policy, they may check with the state. So, if you get a ticket 1 month into a 1 year insurance policy, it could take 11 months to catch up with you.
