Vegas?
Alright 8-10 23 yr old guys going to Vegas over memorial day weekend. We need to figure out where to stay that maximizes the action without totally breaking the bank. Looking at 2 rooms, but getting some type of suite that we can cram everyone into would be the best case scenario. About half of us have been before, the other half haven't (first time for me).
Suggestions, tips, advice, I need help from the brain trust. Rough plan would be drinking at the pool and gambling during the day, then dinner and clubs/bars then late night gambling. |

Gamble at night... preferably after midnight... much less crowded and you can pick your poison.
Daytime is for sleep, stuffing yourself with food, hanging at the pool, seeing the sights if you must. Vegas is very hungry... rooms are cheap... shop online. Big question is where do you want to stay, on the strip? Off the strip? Fremont street?

I've never been before, but as close to the action as possible, which I think means on the strip.
One of my friends found a 2 bedroom villa at the Marriott Grand Chataeu for like $260 a night? Good, bad, indifferent? |

I just got back from Vegas. The Belagio is really nice and thier drink service at the tables was the best out of all of the casinos we went to. I really like Paris, very cool inside. Just call and ask the hotel what kind of deal they can give you, let them know you will be bringing 10 people and get two rooms at least. I'm 24 and I am not into the club scene at all. But if you are I would suggest hitting the Palms. There are 4 clubs in the hotel. I asked my concierge about it and he gave me a guys number to text and he got us in for free. I still have his number if you want it. The Playboy club has tables inside which is cool b/c they will serve you free drinks if your gambling or else drinks are twelve dollars each.

At your age, Mandalay Bay. Decent price on rooms and best pool in Vegas, chicks galore.

The Wynn Hotel has a Ferrari- Maserati Dealership inside & the General Manager (of the dealership) is an old Brumos Porsche guy.

An inexpensive place to stay on the strip is Harrah's. It's right in the middle, and on a monorail station also. As a side bonus, most of the rooms are on the back vs. the front (like the TI), so it's quieter when trying to sleep in the middle of the day.

Red Rock Resort..off strip, the place jumps on weekends...lots of young locals party there. Prices are much more reasonable, as they have to be for the locals. One of the BEST Poker Rooms in LV. Probably not as close to the action on the strip as U would want...but as nice as anything on the Strip (nice pool area and clubs)
The Palms always looks SHABBY to me....Golden Nugget is the BEST Downtown. Bellagio..is about as good as you can get and then there is the Buffet...also one of the best Poker rooms...but it is an expensive hang out..I am always amazed at the Dale Chuilly art glass that hangs from the ceiling of the lobby... When your here check out the new City Center & Caesars Forum..they have some amazing shops in there..in paticular the watch shop....you can buy a 1/4 of a mill $ watch in there. The Imperial Palace car collection..if ya like cars...you can get a free ticket from a guy standing in front of the casino. Come to think of it everything looks SHABBY to me on the strip... The Strip is a CARNIVAL where the object is to seperate the Rubes from as much money as they can. What you see as a Rube is the facade of a Carnival atomsphere with the factory of servicing the Rubes behind the scenes (the scale is amazing to see). As for gambling...your best odds are AWAY from the strip, the locals don't go nesr it to gamble, unless they are there to fleece the Rubes (poker rooms) or work the COMP system. This is a town full of Hookers, Hustlers and Grifters... Everybody gives free drinks to Gamblers (Rubes) A Cocktail Waitress who servees those free drinks at the Wynn can make $400 a day in tips... If you want to see the REAL LV go way North on LV Blvd to Jerrys Nugget for the best Prime Rib Dinner in LV and for a very reasonable cost.. East on Sahara 654 E for some of the best Thai food in the US ..Lotus Garden, Dim Sum...Orchid Garden...on west Sahara..

^^^ This... if you can get past the hype of being on the strip Downtown (Fremont street) is by far the most bang for your buck. Easy walking to ten or twelve casinos... all with better odds and lower buy ins than the strip.

Awhile back I was reading in the RJ (newspaper) that one of the big time clubs in a major hotel lost its liqour license because of Prostitution going on in the back of the room...the girls would be topless and be giving BJ's...what happens in LV stays in LV...
Lots of women come up from LA as part time Hookers on the weekends. During the day they hang around the pools. If people knew what really happens in this town nobody would come....If you notice all the majors have Security Agents at the Hotel elevators to keep people from being mugged while going to their rooms... If ya watch ya can spot the Call Girls...they come in from the Parking Garage, walk quickly to the Hotel elevators in a bee line..usually with a Cell Phone in hand and are nicely dressed...they waste no time loitering around. In and out as it were.

Sorry, my bad... I'm an old codger... and don't do clubs... heck last time I was in Vegas the only "clubs" were of the strip type.

Of all the places mentioned, Harrahs' is probably the most centrally located and closest to all the hot spots. Though I find the casino and hotel rooms a tad tired. Red Rock is way far from the Strip, like 20 min. at least by car. Mandalay Bay is good, but pretty much the southern end of things and far from everything else. Paris is good, very nice, good eats, good gambling. I went to the Pawn Stars shop and it was the lamest store I've ever been to. I swear, Goodwill in the hood has more and better stuff. You couldn't pay me to go there again. Wynn and Encore are good, but not cheap at all. There's a topless beach at Encore and it can been quite a scene with lots of silicone.
Drinks are just stupid expensive in Vegas anymore. The freebies are ok if you're gambling, but ordering at the bar is just like getting robbed at gunpoint and having the robber pour something in your cup. My company had its annual sales conf. at Mandalay Bay in Jan. One night we had a the bar at the top of The Hotel to ourselves and an open tab. Drinks were $12 minimum and nothing below that was allowed. My boss had to pay $6 for a can of Red Bull because it was too cheap to go on the tab. Between the 150 of us, our bar tabs easy ran $5k-$10k per night and that was always AFTER the stupid expensive and bad dinners.

Rick, you should check out NYC I was there in December and of all my trips those where those most expensive drinks by far, It was OK to pay for a $17 drink. My wife and I see anything under 10 bucks for drinks on vacation and we are siked.
Tabs, the pawn stars was just cool to say you've seen it. I waited in line maybe 5 mins to get in. It is a very small pawn shop. and not much cooler than a thrift store, but I had fun. |

Every year we play in a hockey tourney in Vegas. We rent a big ol house, and stay in it. Its pretty sweet, and a lot cheaper than a hotel room. We get free limos to take us to the casino, bars, etc..
