i want a toyota Hilux!!

a small diesel rig would suit me perfectly. kinda ugly, but nothing a mild lift and slightly larger tires wouldnt cure. i really want one. i rode around in one in Thailand for awhile. very cool..great advertisement.

You could have a front clip diesel ship in from japan. No more smog to deal with. There's a commpany down here that will sell the whole front clip along with the diesel motot for my 80 series Land Cruiser that will almost bolt right in. Again, no more smog to deal with.

I preferred the Hilux of the age that Top Gear took to the north pole. That was one tough truck

I have an older Toyota 2.4l turbodiesel + bellhousing under my workbench. Just waiting for the right truck to come along.

The way I see that is the same as the Gen 1 (2001-2004) of Tacoma with new grill and headlamps...

actually, the first half of the commercial reminds me of all the things which top gear has done with a hilux... drove it into the ocean, to the north pole, up a volcano, sort of a landslide (the tower demo episode)...

Stijn,
That's a Landcruiser pickup, not a Hilux.
It's bigger than Hilux, although Hiluxes seem to be getting bigger every year!

Man I miss my toyota P/U... the only thing that killed it was rust, that is after 600,000km of abuse.

Unless it is a pre-1975 vehicle, I am almost certain you would have a very hard time registering it in California.

Overseas you can purchase a Hilux 4x4 crew cab turbodiesel that gets 30 MPG and has more towing capacity than the V6 Tacoma sold here. Why we don't get them in the USA baffles me, because they would sell a lot of them.

Hiluxes are about half of the trucks that you see driving around over here in the 'stan. I really wish you could get one in the states. I've done some looking into grey market imports and other less legal methods of getting one in, but none of them are very practical. Yes, I know you can do the halfcut thing, but there is more to a Hilux than just the engine. The frame and suspension are completely different.. They are such solid, durable trucks, it is really unreal. While they would certainly fill a niche market in North America, it is not clear to me that they would be refined or luxurious enough for the typical consumer, which is exactly what I like about them. I've settled for the closest thing that I can get, which is a reltaively low mile '99 Tacoma. The older trucks are better than the new ones in my opinion.

My first car was an '84 Mistubishi Mighty Max turbo diesel 2wd. I really regret selling it. It was a great little truck - as good as any Toyota, IMO.
Eventually it's turbo and fuel pump needed rebuilding and my dad and I couldn't justify the cost, so we junked it.
