How much did you pay for your 1st pack of cigarettes?

The gas thread got me to thinking.

I have only purchased one pack of cigarettes in my life. It would have been about 1966 when we rode our bicycles up to a cigarette vending machine. I pumped in a quarter and got a pack of Camels. My buddy got a pack Salem's. We rode down to the river and smoked three each and decided that was totally stupid and we threw the rest into the river.

So my 1st & only purchase was 25 cents from a vending machine. I saw someone pay $5.50 for a pack recently.

How much were cancer sticks when you bought your first pack?

Tobacco prices in Ontario are nuts. They're apparently about $9 a pack now. Back in the early 90s they were $3 or $4 for a pack of 25.

I'm thinking they were 50 cents from a vending machine in '69, I'm sure they were $9 a carton when I quit.

Wow, some parents that knew how to handle a child. Cool.

Thank them for being good parents sometime soon.

18 cents. later, sea stores were 90 cents a carton unfiltered, 1$ a carton filtered.
don't smoke or drink anymore. really miss both. dick works better now, but that only irritates my wife. if i ever sell my 930, i'll spend 6 months a year in maui. alone.

was caught by my father as i was lighting up the first one.
he made me smoke them all!
haven't really had a desire to try them since.

was getting gasoline this afternoon and saw someone pay $ 9.44 for a pack.
he said that he was in virginia last week and paid $3.60 a pack.

As I recall Camels were about 35 cents. I remember going to NYC and paying 75 cents and thinking how outrageous that was. I don't recall what they were when I quit in the late 70s but it was too much, that's for sure.

$1.75 from a vending machine at a Union 76 gas station. That was in the early '80s. I then spent a year as an exchange student in England and a pack was around $2.

Glad I quit that habit.

I never smoked ,but remember back in the mid '70s going to the store for my older brother and paying 65 cents. Gave me a dollar, got to keep the change...

Here in NYC Ive recently seen Newports and Marlboros going for $12

I was at a flea market last week, and someone was selling an old cig vending machine. These two teens were looking at it in amazment they couldnt believe that you were able to get them from a vending machine.

How many joints could you get from your first dime bag?
How much did you pay for your first tatoo?
How much did you all pay for your first hooker?
What was the cost of your first lid?
How much did you pay for your first plug?
How much did you pay for your first bleeding?

They were less than $2 when I started back in my teens. I remember being upset when they went over $2 a pack, then $3...I said I would quit when they hit $4. Yeah right. I eventually quit when they hit around $5 a pack. That will be four years ago this November.

A few weeks ago in Atlantic City they varied in the vending machines from a low of $10 to a high of $12.
