English not being my native tongue, I admit that I sometimes have to look this one up. But a quick google is easy enough.

I try to write correctly all the time, but I can imagine an occasional error slipping through, sorry for that... :)

A few other examples I see here regularly, "threw" instead of "through".... or "I'de" instead of "I'd" (I would)...

That's excusable. I have all sorts of nationalities in my family and they claim English is a very difficult language to learn.

Hey, you guys are ecluding english as second language people :D. Honestly, I have no problem with "you're and your", but do have problem with "lose and loose". I think these 2 are different animals. One is the structure/rule, and one is vocabulary.

Those all drive me crazy (it's just a short putt), but what really gets to me is what I call the "double subject". As in, "those people, they...", "this man, he...", "the President, he..." I hear this constantly and it just sets me off, just ask my wife!

At times most of us have had bad breaks. I have also discovered bad brakes on my car.
I can seldom do anything about the former. The latter I can repair.

If English is your second language, it usually shows up in grammar and I suspect your command of the English language is better than my grasp of your native tongue. You're usually trying though and I appreciate the effort.

Milt, I have to agree with you. Poor spelling and the misuse of words is annoying. I feel the biggest effect is the undermining of the message. If a poster is attempting to make me believe he or she knows what they're talking about, their misuse of words will dissuade me before they get there.

Remember: people are a highly socialized species. When we are speaking face to face, we depend heavily upon facial expression and body language.

If you remove the face-to-face and continue the conversation, we rely upon vocal intonation, speed and enunciation modifiers.

Once the vocal clues are removed from the communication, we have 26 letters and their capitals, punctuation and spacing left with which to communicate. This forum is a perfect example of that.
At that point, your whole communication is riding on the verbal message. It is easy to lose that message if you can't school yourself to use the tools in the correct fashion.

As some of you may have suspected from some of my previous posting... English is my second language and only learned it in my late teens when I joined the Navy. So I did not benefit from learning in school with emphasis on grammatical rules and learned a lot of badddd words :eek::eek::eek:

My biggest problem beside the "ed" and "s" at the end of words (which always end up being the reverse of what I think it should be), is not knowing better.

For 10 years, I wrote "even though" in one word as it sounded to me (evendo).

One day, my boss was reviewing a PER that I wrote on a subordinate. He made a few redline correction and Lo and Behold... I find out that it was 2 words :):D:)

Yes I know about the overuse of “…” but I love to use it :D:rolleyes::D

G-Man in this part of the word we have tornadoes every spring. Invariably the TV new crews will seek out some toothless half wit to interview. The usual quote is something like "I seen the tornado come from across that there field" Of course the reporter always asks the stupid question "How do you feel about your destroyed house?"

Back when I was in high school the question that always bugged me was "Hey man what time it is?"

The one I see all the time (here in Pelican) is "breaks" when referring to "brakes"
