"Your"

Previously I said I didn't care if people couldn't figure out the difference between "your" and "you're." To be sure, when someone makes that mistake, I figure them to be pretty lame. By lame, I mean they most likely didn't get very good grades in school. Or, they simply were not able to comprehend basic grammar while they aced calculus.

I see this everywhere now. I expect to see it in the newspaper and magazines before long. You know what that means? The incorrect usage will become adopted and included in Webster's newly added words. To me, we're there already.

Or should I have said, "Were their already" ?

Anyway, I find that it does still irritate me that people who can get jobs paying 5 to 10 times what I've ever made in my best year can be so ignorant.

My observation is that 60% of the posters here get it wrong. When I move to other forums about garages or home improvement, etc., it's closer to 90%.

God bless America's education system.

billybek 03-21-2011 06:13 PM

Your kidding, right? ;)
You're opinion is very important to me. :)

chocolatelab 03-21-2011 06:18 PM

Your right, i've seen it done numerous times. :)

widgeon13 03-21-2011 06:26 PM

nynor 03-21-2011 06:34 PM

lose vs. loose.... it is here on pelican every day.

targa911S 03-21-2011 06:42 PM

I saw an ad in the paper the other day for some "rot iron" furniture. Like finger nails on a black board to me.

Gogar 03-21-2011 06:43 PM

I read 5 pages of the Performance Products catalog today (yeah, I know) and I saw "Porsche's" used improperly on three of those 5 pages. Err, I mean: "Page's".

craigster59 03-21-2011 06:45 PM

What about "ur"

dewolf 03-21-2011 07:16 PM

Then and than is my pet hate.

KaptKaos 03-21-2011 07:17 PM

Their are reasons that this upsets you, but there your problems, so they're.

Irregardless, I'm just sayin'.

targa911S 03-21-2011 07:17 PM

You hate pets?

HHI944 03-21-2011 07:23 PM

Recently, in my mailbox, I discovered an ad for a catering company claiming the best "orderbs" on the island...

masraum 03-21-2011 07:31 PM

Hey, you name it, all do it.

onlycafe 03-21-2011 07:49 PM

except accept, or the affect effect.

lisa_spyder 03-21-2011 08:02 PM

All those previously listed are somewhat irritating.

But 'the one' for me is I could care less. Of course you could, unless of course you mean "I could NOT care less"...90% of people seem to get this wrong and in most of those instances their posts become a little comical because of this faux pas...

dtw 03-21-2011 08:04 PM

One that pops up a lot here, is describing reproduction or "repro" parts as "repo". Drives me up a wall. No, your horn grilles from S toddard are not repossessed. Get it right.

Evans, Marv 03-21-2011 08:28 PM

Using "seen" instead of "saw" drives me nuts. It will be adopted into the language soon.

RWebb 03-21-2011 08:39 PM

If she'll run an Aaron, she'll do anything!
