HP Slate Thread?
Well, I justs ordered the Slate thanks to reviews here from James (aka Redbeard).
Now, let's see if we need a thread dedicated to getting the most out of the Slate. I got it from CostCentral for $799.19 shipped. best price I found on the web and they currently have 5 in stock ... make that 4 in stock now. Hopefully I get mine before the end of the week since it's just coming from PA to IL via FedEx ground. I didn't order a keyboard yet. Just wanted to see how I like it. Might just pickup a Bluetooth keyboard locally if I fee the need for one. I see there is a lot of ipad/iphone targeted Bluetooth keyboards out there. I suspect they will work with the Slate running win7P, right? What are you guys using for keyboards? I'd like a light and thin one for travel. Next thing todo may be to Jailbreak my iPhone 3GS (with grandfather data plan) so I can use the Slate with the phone anywhere I go. |

For my tablet, I picked up an Apple Bluetooth keyboard. But, I use it rarely. --also, being bt, it's not allowed on airplanes.
If you've ever studied that ancient art of cursive hand writing you're all set. The windows inking input is fast and comfortable. Just don't make the mistake I made at first; don't write like an engineer. Skip the urge to write well-formed block letters, and start scribbling like a doctor late for a T-time, and you'll be set. You may need to add unexpected words to the the dictionary, as needed... like your name, or abbreviations. Once those words are added, it's really smooth sailing. You can also use the voice input - tho' that takes much longer to train ...both for the computer, and the user . . . the cmptr needs to learn your habits, and the user needs to learn to say things like "period, new-line" at the end of a sentence/paragraph.

Good tips Glen. I'll give my cursive a go...
Related: I just cancelled my order with CostCentral. They claimed they can't verify my card, so they want a credit form filled out with photo copies of the front and back of my card and driver's license. A bit too much info for me to put out there.....never happened to me before. Next retailer please! |

I just got off the phone with PCNation. They are actually here in Illinois, but their webpage is not up to date.
So all the available stock appears to have been sold. Wish the first store had gotten their act together...I even opted for the fast freight. But no way I'm I going to send an online retailer copies of my DL and CC. |

4/13/2011 3 HP is not responsible for delays outside of our immediate control, including delays related to order processing or unexpected increase in demand. Typically only orders paid for by credit card receive credit approval on the same day the order is placed. Orders delayed due to order processing will default to an Estimated Ship Date 30 days from the date credit is processed and the order is released. Estimated Ship Dates are based on any known extended lead times. |

Yeah, certainly another option. However, I think the current objective is two-fold here: 1. Finding a better price. 2. Finding a retailer that actually has one in stock/ready to ship.
Oh, and FYI the auction above just ended @ $790 (w/ free "expidited" shipping). EDIT: Nice score Souk! ![]() |

It is the same width as the Slate. Pickup one of these while you are buying the keyboard Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GM-M7700B Noble Black 1 x Wheel Bluetooth Wireless Laser 1600 dpi Compact Laptop Mouse Usually, for light typing and surfing, I just keep the slate in the protective case. Note, to get to the upper right corner, you sometimes need to slide corner of the case off. When I head out of the house, I now grab my Slate as well as cell phone and keys. If I need to check something, I have a full PC at my finger tips. When you need to do serious typing and work and want a mouse and keyboard, bluetooth is the way to go. If you're using the dock, great. But if you're on the move, install the Slate upsidedown in the case and the case acts as an easel. Connect keyboard and mouse and you are set for serious work! Most of the time now, I'm just putting the slate to sleep. You can do this with a quick flip of the on/off switch.

Set the font and the icons to large and it really helps.
