I think John Moses Browning should be canonized and I'm not even Catholic, but that's OK because he was Mormon! What a genius that man was!

the Ed Brown 1911 photo is from them. I WANT!

The ND that is described in this thread could not ever happen with a P7, no matter how you folded over or bunched up the leather flap on your holster. It's just plain impossible.

On top of it, the HK represents an absolute work of art and marvel of mechanical engineering. Porsche's and HK's go to together like the American flag and apple pie...

My one of a kind railed HUD equipped P7

If money is no issue, HK is just flat out the best.

Easy to do when they mostly use P226's :) Welcome back BTW!

The German police force use HK firearms. And they have trialed and tested them all.
That's good enough for me.

Most of the cops I've seen in Germany carry SIG P225 for sidearms. In the airports, their big guns are HK MP-5's. Only cops I've ever seen carry HK were NJ state troopers and US Customs and Border Patrol in the DC office.

sc_rufctr 03-27-2011 03:28 AM

When I was there 20 odd years ago they carried HKs.

sc_rufctr 03-27-2011 04:00 AM

SIG P225... Nice!

as i mentioned a few pages back re: weapons testings. most of YOU do not subject a weapon to either daily use, or extreme abuse or even stoooo-pidity.

but watch the HK "SQUIB A ROUND" video on an HK USP. watch as they squib the round(stuck in barrel=really REALLY BAD JU JU) and how the next round pushes the 1st out and still hits the target. barely even a bulge in the barrel and all the next rounds were all in the 9-10-X ring.

now for those of you who RELOAD! that is one of the most common fuch ups of reloading. either not enough powder, or a double charge of powder. both can spell DISASTER! and to see HK go thru every single possible screwup and abuse conceived and the damn things no matter what the spoon still come up grinning is an incredible testament to their eng. quality and design.

now back to my past hunts. i cant think of one hunt i have been on where we were not subjected to some type of inclement weather or conditions. from hot/dusty(wearing shorts at 7000ft elevation on turkey day on a bull elk hunt one year) to down right killer weather below zero temps freezing rain slush snow mud etc. be it deer or elk season. now you have (3) hunting styles to choose from:

1) walk yer azz off

2) quad/horseback/dirty bikes

3) or KING OF THE ROADHUNTERS sitting behind the wheel of yer TRUCK with the HEATER BLASTING!

now pick the one that yer spoon aint gonna get dirty or wet. thats right. king of the road hunters is the correct answer. all the other modes of travel yer spoon is gonna be exposed to what mother nature delves out.

the other choices you have are "do i go with anyone?" if so on quads or dirty bikes yer spoon is going to get COVERED IN MUD SNOW RAIN! so my example here is ya better be damn smart about clearing barrels and actions of mud/snow or place a rubber over barrel or in the case of an HK a MUZZLE CAP. now these work great except they are black. and since they blend in and in the heat of the moment when some critter goes running by i have BLOWN the MUZZLE CAP OFF INTO LIL ITTY BITTY SHREDDS! so learning from my mistake, i now have wrapped with white pin stripping tape like a barber pole so my beety lil eyeballs see that i have the cap on before i fire. on my others i use either a rubber or electrical tape to keep mud/snow/rain/dust out of barrel. because a clogged barrel can get REAL UGLY REAL FAST!

another thing ya get to contend with is FROZEN ACTIONS when the weather gets downright crappy. this is always fun to deal with in the field. thats why we ROGUARD all of ours and never have a problem. roguard is teflon impregnation(i like that word) of the metal pores for complete lubricity no matter what the conditions. worth every penny X (1) BILL-YON and it makes cleaning a snap even when covered in MUD/DUST/SNOW/ICE!

so in ending ............THINK REAL DAMN HARD about keeping yer barrels free of CRAP! any crap whatsoever.

The SEALs used Mk23's and now use HK45C's and MP5's right off the top of my head. P226's are also magnificent pistols too though.

Just passing through.

HK's are prevalent in SWAT teams- units that choose weapons based on merit instead of on cost.

The P7 was used by the German state police, border patrol units and the elite GSG9 counter-terror unit for decades. At one time or another it was used by the forces of 27 different nations, as well as several dozen major US police forces or their SWAT teams.

The HK P30 and P2000 and USP are issued by the Las Vegas police, i saw a bunch of them carrying them when i was there back in Oct during my coast to coast drive across ze US. Those models are used by a lot of police forces, a google will quickly turn up a comprehensive list.

Given the price point of HK pistols, it is really remarkable that they are competitive at all. A used P7 PSP costs more than a brand new Glock 19. A new HK45C probably costs almost double the price of a new Glock.

Of course, the money your cops/forces will save on emergency room self inflicted gunshot wound costs would probably make up the difference pretty quickly. :D

Mk23's were designed for them but they never really used them. When the final product was delivered they shelved them and used the P226. I would take a P226 over any HK product too. I carry an HK on duty, they aren't all that. Your P7 is a cool gun and I think HK's metal guns are of much higher quality than the plastic.

m21sniper 03-27-2011 06:19 PM

I have fired Sig's extensively. P225's, 228's, and 229's. I would take any of them over a Glock of any model, but i would take any USP, P30, P2000 or P7 over any Sig except the 210, even the German built Sigs. I would certainly take any Sig over almost any 1911.

Of all the handguns on earth i could choose if the trouble started, a German Sig would probably be third on my manufacturers list behind HK and FN.

SHTF I'm grabbing my Gemtech 22/45. Nobody will hear me coming and I can carry a ton of ammo. :)

m21sniper 03-27-2011 06:30 PM

That would not be a bad pistol to have in the kit, for sure.

My brother just got a dry suppressor a couple weeks ago, it's a very neat toy. He had it on a 9mm 1911. I would say it killed about 90% of the report.

:D

It is pretty comical to hear some of these guys running Glocks down.... A few trips to closely watch an IDPA match and I bet a couple of them might change their tune about how well stock Glocks perform in defensive scenarios. ;) Guys like Dave Sevigny and Bob Vogel can choose any brand they want yet they compete with Glocks in the stock classes and repeatedly win national championships with them. :) Just one little hiccup can mean the difference between 1st place and 10th (or life/death in the real world).... The Glocks just plain work all week long in practice and at matches rain, shine, mud, or sand.

Sure there are other decent guns being used, but to make claims that Glocks are not at some of the best defensive handguns made is just plain silly.

mossguy 03-28-2011 09:34 AM

They are still ugly. YMMV.
