I try to practice that every time I land, (maybe not quite that extreme) but you never know when you will have to do it for real!
I can in about 200 feet if I really had to but it would not be pretty!

Friend of mine has flown that plane. Its a monster and not an everyday flier.

My grandparents had a farm in Michigan. The runway was the 'backyard'. My grandfather spent a year with an earth mover and some huge bulldozers making it himself.
I remember flying with him in his Piper Cub, and landing in a strong headwind. I swear we were only going about 10mph ground speed. |

WOW!
I am surprised no one nosed over. One guy looked like he was doing a 1-point landing.  Those things just floated off the ground- amazing.

long ago my father would land his J3 on the levee. it wasn't even wide enough for two cars to pass without one pulling to the side. that might not sound too spectacular except for the fact it was a float plane. he also used to tie his pirogue between the floats, find a little lake out in the swamp, come in chopping off the tops of trees, land in 8-10 inches of water, shoot a bunch of ducks no one else could get close to and then trim the trees again getting back out. it wasn't very often, but he was fun to be around sometimes. ever TP a house from a low and slow flying plane?

A guy at my local airport has been practicing daily for Valdez 2011. Pretty cool to watch.

My Minimax would beat quite a few of those planes on takeoff distance and even more of them if it had brakes to hold to be able to start with the tail up and full power. Obviously without brakes it will not land too short and has solid gear so one has to fly it on somewhat gently to avoid getting splinters in one's @ss.
I have landed in "backyards" before, but they were large ones with clear approaches..... Of course landing in my "backyard" is cheating.  During winter (especially with a decent headwind blowing) I can land about anywhere on skis.
