I a thread a few weeks ago I expessed interest in trying to build my own fishing rod. I searched high and low for a rod that met my specs. I found one that fit the bill made by G. Loomis, but decided for that kind of money I could probably build my own that met my specs exactly and looked exactly like I wanted it to.
I did some research and talked to Greg's Custom Rods in Lake Stevens, WA (Shameless Plug.) Greg and his wife helped me size and order my components, he also gave lots of free advice of the tips and tricks variety.
The first part of the build is done. The blank is a Rainshadow ISA1266F 10'6" with a fast action tip and enough backbone to turn a big king. The handles are woven graphite over graphite arbors made by Greg. The reel seat is also woven graphite made by Pacific Bay.
The blank was painted by a friend of mine from the foregrip to the location of the first guide. It's an Audi color called "Ravenna Blue."
Nest step is wrapping guides. It'll be a week or so until I get to it, but I will update with pictures when I finish them. they are the same gunmetal as the reel seat hoods with blue zirconium inserts.
