A B then A/B is not the same as A÷B as you stated earlier Because A x B ÷ C is the same as B ÷ C x A because B ÷ C x A is not the same as B ÷ (C x A) 100 ÷ 10 x 5 is 50, not 2 48 ÷ 2 x 12 = 288 = 48 ÷ 2 x (9+3) = 288

"Cellulite is hereditary, so much so that the indications of who will get it, and to what degree, are present almost from birth," says dermatologist Amy Newburger, MD, director of Dermatology Consultants of Westchester in Scarsdale, N.Y. In fact, Newburger tells WebMD, skin biopsies taken from infants are highly predictive of whether cellulite will develop later in life, based on the number of septa bands found in the skin.

I don't know why there is any discussion on this.
I did the math. Came up with 288. Voted right after the thread started. I see how the answer 2 could be calculated if it was a different equation than posted. KT

What's to argue about? Can it be explained any more clearly than this?

Google the equation and it simplifies the equation by rendering it this way:
(48 ÷ 2) * (9 + 3) = 288 KT

But that's not right as it added the parens.... ...and they are the key.

That is how you solve the equation as written in the original post, however.

no matter which way you initially thought it was, after reading all the 'rules' and 'orders', how can anyone still think it's 2?

That's it right there. The wrong way and the right way.

You're joking, right?

This expression messes with commutative and associative properties of arithmetic..
What is the answer to this? 12(2x2) divided by 2(9+3) or 12(2X2)/2(9+3) or ((2X2)(6X2))/((2+2+5+3)2) Maybe Mrs Kovner, my 9th grade algebra teacher will rise from the ashes and smack me in the head again..

That picture above looks like the overflow at Lake Berryessa.
