Son totals dad's supercar $450K

BBC - Newsbeat - Son writes off his dad's £275,000 supercar

Dad let his 20 yo son take out his 225mph Gumpert Apollo with a comely 19 yo passenger. Fortunately, both walked away with minor injuries. "police are investigating whether he was speeding when he lost control of the car on the 50 mph road."

No, I'm sure he was probably going the speed limit or possibly even a little less since it was in a corner.

The amount of damage is about right for 50mph or less......

That'll buff right out....

At least we have one less Gumpturd Apollo on the road....

If you can afford that car and let your son take it, it would be no worst financally than my kid crashing the family's new car, probably even less so.

I wonder what the car would part out at?

Good news is that it eliminated one ugly copy of an ugly car ... the Bricklin.

Gumpert?!? Never heard of it, and now I wish I still hadn't.

Naming a car company after yourself must be a great ego boost. Especially if your name is only slightly less embarrassing than "Lipschitz".

He'll, I'd drive it. Stupid name, but it looks like it means business and has the nuts to back it up.

I wouldn't buy one, but I'd drive one given the opportunity.

Don't count on that. So many people with these kinds of cars are at their financial end in an effort to acquire it. They want to appear more successful than they really are, and are stretched so thin, or living in such a financial house of cards, that something like this might well do them in. I'm not saying that's the case here, but there are some indications. Like really, really bad taste...

The only one I've seen in person had an Audi powerplant and, I assume, other Audi running gear. So, other than body and maybe suspension parts, probably not much. And most of those parts look a little used up.

If you do a search on YouTube, the Gumpert was at the top of their leader board for doing the lap of their track faster than everything else, and the board was full when they did it.

Yeah, the Apollo uses a twin turbo Audi 4.2. In the Top Gear clip, they said the entry level was 650hp, they drove a 700hp, and the top of the line was an 800hp.

The car that crashed was black, not the puke burnt orange. I think it would look better.

Does any one know what it would take to finance this kind of car? down payment? Can you even finance it?

Actually, the guy is past AudiSport Director (when they were winning) and the car theoretically makes enough downforce to drive upside down (at 190 mph)

I suspect that if you have enough money, you can finance just about anything.
