I tend to use google maps before I head out to get an idea of where I'm going. Then I use Google Maps on my iPhone as a map in the car, almost never as a turn by turn gps director. Instantly having a map of anywhere that fits into the palm of my hand is pretty nice.

I remember when our Garmin took us down a two track! Had it in 4wd and it did get knarly but got us there! I beleive GPS has somewhat dumbed us down.

I have a very basic GPS that I use to locate services. I still rely heavily on maps.
