You can use an app like TappaTalk to do it as well...

I have been bugging wayne to make the regular site work on iThingys, or to add upload ability to the iphone optimized site...

FWIW, there are ways to transfer and work with Office files on the iPad. I've never looked into them but have noticed it in some aimless googling sessions.
