Screen Display Issues - hardware? software? appl. software?

Firefox is messed up pretty bad (shown on the RH side below) - note lack of all the gray boxes. Other sites are even worse.

Yet, Chrome (on the left) seems to work fine.

Yet again, MS Outlook seems messed up a little bit (as tho it is running in some sort of reduced resolution or low color bit mode).

other apps seem ok - Word, Excel, iTunes...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1305679368.gif

I can't seem to find anything in the Firefox Options that is wrong (and the secret squirrel, hidden options on a web page looking thingie are beyond my ability to decipher).

cgarr 05-17-2011 04:48 PM

LOL not again! go find an 8 yo and have him fix this thing once and for all!

nynor 05-17-2011 04:56 PM

which version of firefox?

nynor 05-17-2011 05:02 PM

Pages not loading correctly in Firefox - Geeks to Go Forums

see post 4.

nynor 05-17-2011 05:02 PM

bollocks, double post.

RWebb 05-17-2011 05:04 PM

4.0.1

I am looking at your profile link now...

Thanks

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:06 PM

nope - not a profile issue

jeffgrant 05-17-2011 07:13 PM

You seem to have ad-block installed and active on the forums. It looks like the client-side javascript/CSS files (that do a lot of the layout work) are not being loaded properly.

I'd disable adblock for the site and try again.

If that doesn't work, try a force-reload (ctrl-shift-R) to see if that fixes it, or clear your cache and reload.

$0.02

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:17 PM

will try - it used to work fine until...

wouldn't starting mozilla in safe mode disable the ad-block?? it looked just the same when I did that

nynor 05-17-2011 07:17 PM

perhaps the java settings in the options\content are disabled. its not a hardware issue. perhaps java needs to be reinstalled.

until?

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:18 PM

until it all started -- a few hours ago or maybe it was yesterday

will try to re-install java

Ctl-shift-R while viewing this thread did not change anything

jeffgrant 05-17-2011 07:19 PM

Java has NOTHING to do with it... Java isn't being used at all.

Javascript is NOT Java.

nynor 05-17-2011 07:21 PM

fine. but there is a javascript enable box where i said to look. hang on, i'll disable it and see what things look like.

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:21 PM

javascript disabled
block pop ups disabled

I'll restart Firefox to see if it needs that...

jeffgrant 05-17-2011 07:22 PM

Did you clear your cache?

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:22 PM

nope; no change

nynor 05-17-2011 07:24 PM

javascript disabled changed nothing. interesting.

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:25 PM

I went to the Add-Ons menu to see if there was a popup blocker installed - did not see one, tho I know I used to have one; maybe it did not survive the new computer or upgrad to Ffox 4

BUT... I did note that the buttons on the plugins "page" or menu are messed up - they have two line drawings or outlines around them, and are not colored.

that seems not to be on the internet but inside Firefox...???

jeffgrant 05-17-2011 07:26 PM

See if you can manually download this file: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/clientscript/vbulletin_important.css?v=387

That is the main file that determines the layout of the site. Odds are it's been corrupted in some manner, and is cached in your system.

And I run with JS disabled on here, and it works fine.

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:27 PM

oh yeh - the cache - will look for how to do that

is that - clear recent history on the Tools menu?

nynor 05-17-2011 07:27 PM

maybe your firefox install is waxed.

i chose not to install the latest firefox because a couple of the add-ons i use all the time are not supported.

jeffgrant 05-17-2011 07:27 PM

If stuff in FF is messed up, you might want to try and just download and reinstall FF from scratch.

I can click on it and see the text; Right click does not offer a download option

how would I manually download it? and what folder would I put it in?

nynor 05-17-2011 07:28 PM

tools\options\advanced\network\clear now i #think#.

nynor 05-17-2011 07:29 PM

clearing history does not wipe the cache.

jeffgrant 05-17-2011 07:30 PM

The latest FF has a clear history and opens up a new window where you can select what specific history you want cleared. One of the options is "cache".

Done & rebooted FF - no change

should I have rebooted the computer at any time after making the changes above? (i did not)

nynor 05-17-2011 07:32 PM

rebooting shouldn't matter.

ah, cool.

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:33 PM

ok, that was under Details - I left my cookies and cleared "everything" cache & active xxx (forgot what the xxx was)

nynor 05-17-2011 07:34 PM

i'd try uninstalling firefox, reboot the machine and reinstall it.

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:35 PM

no change - did not reboot FireFox tho

BTW - this is NOT the only site affected

nynor 05-17-2011 07:35 PM

i see an option for site preferences, too.

RWebb 05-17-2011 07:38 PM

BTW - troubleshooting information shows:

Direct2D EnabledBlocked on your graphics driver. Try updating your graphics driver to version 10.6 or newer.

mean anything? ring any bells?

suggests just a speed increase possibility to me

this sounds more like a .dll issue.

where did you get the troubleshooting information? perhaps some .dll in your graphics driver software is causing problems. sounds far fetched, but i've seen much much worse.
