Price of tats

First, please lets not argue about tats, that is not what this post is about (I hope)

What it is about is curiosity... what does a tat cost?

I see people walking around with "sleeves"... isn't that a lot of money?

Or what does a simple tat cost? (a heart with your wifes name)

Post pics and price paid if you like.

Ciao

There are some pretty bad ones on the net. Better to draw it in ink yourself and live with it a few weeks to determine if it's "you". Good artists are worth it.

Cost of lazer removal?
$200-400 times 6-8 sessions over a year or so. The unique sensation of getting plugged into an electric socket followed by blood blisters the size of grapes. etc.
Let's see there was Candy, Jennifer, Margaret...

Sleeves can be very costly depending on complexity and coloring. $250 and up, wayyy up. A simple heart with "Mom" or the wifey's name prolly under $100.

I think John said something about hoping people would put their ideological selfishness in their pockets and, rather than show off their beautiful, brilliant, impressive negative opinions, stick to the subject. The subject is cost.

I don't know about cost, but if I were going to get a tattoo, I would seek out the very best artist and pay their price. Tattoos should be considered permanent, and there are some artist in my area who do stunning work.

Sleeves are generally a "work in progress", done in stages/sections and can takes years to complete so the total cost is spread out

When doing something more than just a small pattern, most artists charge by the hour. I've seen rates as low as $50/hr and some as high as $300/hr. It depends on the artist and also the complexity of the work.

Not specifically thinking of getting a tat... just I live in So Cal where people don't wear a lot of clothing and I see some people with full body themed tats (some quite artistic) and wonder how many thousands of dollars they have invested.

No judgment on tats... just curious.

FWIW I don't have any tats... however my brother past away about four years ago and have toyed with the idea of a simple/small bicep tat with his name/birth and death dates.

But it has been four years and still haven't done it.

My ex-friend paid $3k over a 2 year period for a full sleeve. A "famous" tattoo artist did the work. Very intricate, colorful and detailed, so many hours were required.

My nephew recently got a rather intricate tattoo on his shoulder, roughly about the size of two hands put together. He paid $350 for the outline and will have nearly 3X that much invested once he has it colored in.

Washing machine you say? Hmmmm maybe skip the brothers memorial idea and get one of those.

Great big Maytag on my chest... yeah, that's the ticket!

I've talked to a few people & a couple of tattooists & they pretty much all say the same thing: Don't get your wife's or present steady girlfriend's name as part of your tat. It is supposedly a 'karmic thing' as in bad.

Cheers

In my area it is usually around $100/hr. You will usually get a break if you use the same artist for multiple pieces.

Friend of mine has a special at his shop, $200 for 3 hours. They're booked constantly...

Therein lies the problem... I have no current tats... If I did a memorial for my brother then the wife would probably want her name on me too... slippery slope!

Multiple pieces? Hmmm, lets see... the refrigerator on my chest, the "exit only" sign on my butt, and...

So many of my customers have them; I've always wondered about cost/sq in.
