Top gear did an episode where they tested the Pruis vs a BMW M3. If you drive fast, you actually burn more fuel in the Prius trying to maintain a decent speed than the BMW burns because it manages the same speeds while barely loafing along.

BTW, don't think my car has ever pulled to the right for a effing prius! Prius drivers tend to be smug pot smoking patcholi oil wearing bald guys with gray pony tails. Oh..Obama sticker part of the standard Prius equipment... So, Mr. Prius weenie, when you see this in your mirror, kindly pull to the right... ![]() ![]()

Georgeinthere? Clearly you are a character and I celebrate that.
But driving a Prius like you stole it is like when you are having a party and the poodle begins fiercely humping the throw pillow. Poodle is having a great time, but everyone in the room is trying not to bust up laughing. angela

The oldest guys are driving real muscle cars from the '60s. They're the only ones who can afford them. I was next to a show quality 1970 Challenger 440 6-pack convertible recently and the driver and his wife looked like they escaped from a nursing home.

If I see a Prius passing me on the right I will know it's you. Because you are THE ONLY prius that isn't in the fast lane driving 20 mph below the speed limit watching the MPG gauge making sure they're getting every inch out of the tank.

Most of the "anti-Prius" posters here have never driven one...
As a daily driver, it meets and exceeds every single criteria needed: -Headroom, passenger, and lugggage space for a family of four. -Acceptable fuel milage when driven reasonably. -Decent passing power and handling(no, it is not an Ariel Atom, sorry). -Reliablity? Think back to your 80' GM. The hybrid drive is only a means to an end. It can be geared towards power(like the 918), or millage(like the Insight). In the end it's only a car. |

Porsche 918 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"CO2 emissions are 70 g/km and fuel consumption is 3 L/100 km (94 imperial mpg/78 us mpg)." I think this internet "hybrid issue" is settled. No? |

I think it is funny when people start talking about saving money on gas by driving a somewhat expensive Prius..... If they really were trying to save money, they would have bought something cheaper like a Honda Civic that gets 40 something mpg.
Prius owners for the most part buy them as a green status symbol whether they realize/admit it or not. The fact remains that they still burn gasoline and someday the batteries will end up in a landfill polluting their precious environment. ![]()

A Prius is a substantially nicer car - comfort, safety, stability control, satnav, space - than a Civic or Yaris or whatever. I'm not much interested in a bottom-end econo-car like those. Neither is anyone on PPOT, since I can't think of any Yaris drivers here. So we chose a DD that makes us pretty much indifferent to the price of gas. Meanwhile, others are moaning about $100 fill-ups and $700/mo fuel bills. Pretty funny.

Georgeinhere, you're right - if you're in the left lane and traffic of ANY kind (even a Prius
![]() I was a complete Prius hater. I wound up with one as a rental car when I was working in Miami. I drove it for two weeks and whereas I never did like the car, I did really appreciate it's packaging. The inside of a Prius is cavernous. If you are in stop and go traffic, there probably isn't a better commuter. I have moved from a hater, to grudingly tolerant. The great market for this car is urban taxi and small delivery (flowers, etc). Somewhere up here in the Great NorthWest I saw a whole taxi fleet of Prius cars. What the hell is the plural for Prius? If you are looking for a fuel economical commuter that is REALLY entertaining to drive it like you stole it, look into a late 80's early 90's Honda Civic SI/CRX SI. Pick it up for a couple of grand, drive it to death, push it into the "I'm the Next Alpo Dog Food Can" metal recycling pile. All for less than the battery on the Prius. angela

When I bought a car, I tried to make myself like the Prius, and I just couldn't. I did buy a Camry Hybrid though. I get REALLY good deals on Toyota's since one of my BIL's is high up at Toyota USA. I bought my loaded hybrid for the retail price of a non-hybrid standard Camry.

I am finding that gas mileage is becoming a null point. I spent on average $350-400 a month on fuel alone. The only REAL way of lowering your fuel use is by simply not driving the car. I am now extremely careful which route I take and what else I'll accomplish on that trip. So instead of mpg I am more focused on how many days I can go on a single tank of gas. That's the real challenge.
