Do you give your child haircuts?

My son fears anything that touches his head. He's scared of combs let alone scissors and electric razors. The last time I took him to get his haircut, it cost me $25! That's because it took 4 ladies to cut his hair and distract him while did my best to keep him still on my lap. My kid's 3 y/o and has Down Syndrome so some things are difficult for him. Maybe the experience would be less traumatic if I cut his hair myself.

Do you give you kids their haircuts? How did you get them to be OK with it? Do you use a special kid friendly razor?

Depends a lot on how short you want it or how good you want it to look. I can cut hair and I only use scissors and a comb. So obviously I don't cut it too short at the ears or at the neck.

I would hold his hair between your index and middle finger and guide his hand with the scissors and let him cut some.

Nuff said. FYI, he is wearing the same set of blue muffs as Dieter if you had not noticed.

Not trying to be funny here, if I found myself in your position I think that I would purchase a flowbee and cut his hair with that. You could probably get him used to the sounds by letting him mess with the shop vac when you are working on the car.

My wife gives my 22 y/o son and me a #3 buzz every few weeks. I paid for the trimmer after one buzz. Can't believe I paid for the same thing every month for about 30 years before that.

My son only gets his hair cut 2-3x year anyway. $15 a shot. Not really worth learning to do it.

I do my own. I've learned to do the back by feel. #1

Good suggestions so far - Flowbee and having him look in the mirror while I cut his hair.

The cost is not the issue, of course. He just makes such a racket in the shop that people stop to look in to see who's being tortured. Who knows, maybe that's how he's perceiving it.

Any kid only salons in your area? Our daughter was hesitant about the whole haircut idea when she was a baby. We found a place that had pedal cars as salon chairs and a large video library with a screen at every chair. After the first cut we had more trouble getting her out of the place than we would have imagined. The stylists we encountered seemed to genuinely enjoy kids and did a great job of keeping them entertained.

There are quite a few salons with this formula...

The place I used to go to had a kids chair like that, but it was a yellow 996.
No experience with cutting kid's hair myself.

My daughter just let a pro do it for the first time at 5.5 years. Looked cute on a girl to have long hair.

Good luck for a boy.

My son went through some of that. I would cut his hair with scissors while he was asleep. I would do one side and roll him over. He slept right through it. Good luck.

My wife was a beautician long ago. She cut our son's up to his teens, then wanted to let a pro at it. He got a few that were store-bought but has been back to home-cut (he's 21 now).

My wife started cutting my hair when she got tired of them not cutting it to look like the picture. Has literally saved thousands of dollars and Wahl clippers are one of the few US made products you can find.

Funny you mention that, our Son and I want to cut each others hair but Momma want allow it - we finnaly got her to OK it. Gonna get a Wahl this weekend. We both get buzz cuts for the summer. He wants me to give him a Mohawk - I think I will just go High-n-Tight...

My boy has at least 5 severe cowlicks, a stylist nightmare. If not cut proper, it looks like he has a bunch of dents in his head.

He was afraid of going to the barber. I took him with me a couple times to watch & that helped. Porsche Gal, that is hilarious, glad my wife didn't think of that.
