I've been on a roll with my Canucks, so I'm going with Tag from the pole, my second pick would be Dario and I expect all Andretti drivers do poorly.

I want a first time winner. Rahal would be cool.

Spec racers, turning left........ who cares?
Who will win the Formula Ford race at Mid Ohio in August ? just about as exciting!!!! I used to be a fan until IRL made the big show boring. |

Don't have a clue...that's why I'll watch. Tho I'll agree with Henry...there was a time of more exciting racing.

'bout time for Paul Tracy to redeem himself and win it for real.
He's got the talent, patience and team to do it, along with the dark horse factor. I look for him to stay out of trouble until lap 180, and if he's still on the lead lap, look the F out! I also look for Weldon to do well, and I'll be cheering for any of the Sam Schmidt cars.

While some may decry INDY Car as a spec series, there are still some aspects that make for an interesting race.
Drivers going 200 laps in varying air currents with the possibility of walling the car on every turn. That's not really a feature of road racing. Pit crew performance and strategy. I never really liked this aspect of any racing, but it has become a major part of the sport from Le Mans where they replace entire sections of cars, on down to where stops are not needed. And there's the race itself with all the pomp and circumstance. Again, I'm not one for sitting through driver introductions, the singing of "Back Home in Indiana" color guards and the rest of it, but they do go out of their way to create "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Nothing wrong with the circus and that's all it is, a circus. I'd rather do this than listen to some tired crap at half time during the Super Bowl. While drivers may follow in a very fast paced parade for 450 miles, it does separate the best from the unfortunate. The last 50 miles has got to be the most hair raising thing those drivers do on that track and a few others. But really now, a high line pass at Michigan, while a brave feat, is not anything like side by side at Indy. Watch and enjoy or go play golf. Just STFU if you don't know how it really works. Oh, my prediction? I think Penske and Ganassi are always going to be odds on favorites. Penske seems to be stumbling this year and Ganassi has something going on over in road racing that works too well. It will flow into a long, difficult race like the 500. I'll go with Dixon or Franchitti. Those 2 seem unflappable on the track, so if the crew is perfect, expect them out front towards the end. Rahal is a longshot. But, at the end, anything can happen. After all, Ganassi ran 2 cars out of fuel in qualifying. That's really unbelievable considering. One more prediction: Marco out by 100 miles. I don't know what's wrong with him, but he's the crown prince of open wheel. W/o the name, he'd be driving the team truck, if that. |

It's great to root for the underdog. Just don't bet that way...

Can I vote for Rick Mears?
Helio may be the closest, in modern day Indy Car racing. But I think it might be Will Power's trophy this year.

I went last year for the first time and can't wait to go back again this year. I wish I could have gone to watch it in the 60's, 70's or 80's too.

Indy 500 pick
I will go with Tony Kanaan, he has the speed, years and the mileage. I think Jimmy Vasser could be a good race strategist also because of his past career as a driver for the Chipster.

Pretty hard to care at this point, but I would like to see either Simona de Silvestro or Takuma Sato.
