10K RPM Corvette

This is exciting news. GM is planning a Corvette with a 3 liter turbo, mid-engine car that may go up to 10K RPM. I already think the ZR1 is world class, but a high revving Corvette would be a blast!( hey that rhymes )

CERV IV? I like the idea, but not so sure it will sell well here. Maybe if they made it under a different name for a different target audience.

"using a dry sump oil system that’s particularly well suited to high-performance road courses rather than straight-line acceleration. The engine is expected to feature a narrow 80.5 mm bore and a long stroke, more like a Ferrari or Lamborghini powertrain than the approach used for traditional Motor City metal."

Kind of exciting...dry sump after Porsche abandoned it.

Stiil for me, it's political now...just can't buy from a company that became a willing ward of the federal government.

The headline surprised me but they all look familiar!

I don't know why they'd bother changing engines? Their hp and mileage are on par or better than everyone. They're even light and low, but really old school as far as engine design goes.

Yea, it is amazing how far a push-rod engine can evolve. Chevy small block is the choice of the vast majority of hotrodders.

I do like the idea of the 3.0 v8 however 27 mpg with a 6.0 v8 is pretty cool.

I would like to see the cost of both options.

Will the 3.0 be lighter? Yes, it's smaller but add in 2 turbos, pipes, intercooler etc.

I had a 30' motorhome that had a 8.1 liter Chevy big block! 502 cubic inches of goodness.

My Dad has a 30' motor home with the ford 6 liter v10 It has overhead cams and plenty of tech.

My 8.1 motor was designed back in the early 60's

4.48" bore by 4"stroke. that's 114mm by 102mm

My dad was driving my motorhome out to vegas hauling my 4,000 pound trailer ouyt to a kart race for me. "your motorhome get's better gas milage and slows down less up hill than mine...with out the trailer"

If Chevy wants to build a car the will sell to the non corvette people they need to talk to Porsche owners. They need to offer test drives etc to woo you.

They have paid me to spend 4 hours looking at drawings of the next gen interriors and they failed to ask what I would change. They showed us what they wanted to but didn't ask what we would change.

Reason that I bought a Corvette is that I can carry a wheel chair in it. Would I buy another Hell yes.

Exactly. And every few years we have the same thread on this topic.

GM has been talking about mid-engine Corvettes for more than 40 years now. It won't be happening any time soon.
