IE9 vs Chrome vs Firefox

Just got a new computer up and running. It came with IE8 installed, but I'm getting hounded to move to IE9. I've read various comparisons and can find a review arguing that any of the three is the best.

What browser do you use and why?

Upgrade to IE9 for security reasons, and then use firefox for your browsing.

I have Chrome on my MacBook Pro. It is faster than Safari.

Q: What is "IE9"?

FireFox 4 and IE 8 are too buggy for me. I'm using Chrome now...

IE has never been good.

FF got bloated and annoying.

IE9 won't work on my laptop. Had to go back to IE8, but then I'm running Vista Home Basic.

I've been using chrome for a couple of years now.
I have IE 8 but I never-ever use it.
I also have FF and use it occasionally, but I agree that it's not what it used to be and it's all buggy if you try to run videos, i.e. doesn't shutdown proper, etc.

I read about that with the beta version. Is that still true on the most recent release? I use Gmail and that would certainly be a deal breaker for IE9.

I wasn't really happy that I kept getting alerts for Windows Updates that would result in installation of IE9. Took me a while to figure out how to kill those. Stuff like that turns me off from Microsoft.

IE9 SUCKS......loaded it and dumped it. Back with 8.

Firefox was great then they upgraded it and fuch'd it all up. Chrome is a resource hog.

the GMAIL works properly, its just that the header portion of the webpage is displayed a little funny. And I dont know why everytime Microsoft releases a new product they have to move all the icons into different places. Now, all the 'favorites, home, etc" icons are on the right side. After a week of using it, I still find myself going to the wrong side to get to favorites etc. I finally just set the settings to display that toolbar...

When a page looks wrong in IE9, a little broken page icon will show up at the top. It means it has detected code that was specific to old IE versions and not standards compliant, which IE9now finally is trying to be.

Click that and usually issues will go away. I'm sure Gmail will fix it on their end eventually anyhow too, it's just that they are detecting for IE8 or 7 and putting in specific stuff.

With the latest versions, the playing field is more level than before. IE9 is a solid upgrade but it's still lacking in standards-compliance and developer features. I've been using Chrome as my primary browser on PC as well as Mac for some time now. I have a few apps/sites at work that only support IE though.

I always wait a month or two before loading new IE versions. I got burned with a bad Flash upgrade once so now I wait at least a week or two before upgrading flash or java. Basically, I let everyone else debug the final beta version. How long has IE9 been out?

I detest IE, and I am not trusting of Chrome, so I use FF. It works just fine for me. 64bit Vista Home Premium.

I use Chrome almost exclusively and keep IE6 (yes, IE6) around for those occasional sites that Chrome doesn't display well.
