handicap parking. i understand now

people that abuse handicap parking probably tops my list of pet peeves. well, might be close to smokers that smoke while YOU eat then put it out while THEY eat. never mind. its a slow day.

so i eat at 5 guys at least once a week. this one is knida near the center of the strip mall, but it is right in front of all the handicap parking.
i have finally figured it out.
2 people parked in front of 5 guys, THEN walked past 8 to 10 parking spaces to another place that had TWO empty spaces right in front of the door! its not about the need to walk less, its about the parking space! they are programed to find the handicap spot no matter HOW far it is from the door. and to think, i use to think it was so they had a parking spot at walmart.

DISCLAIMER:
this is only a joke about these 2 people, and the others i have seen do this.
in no way do i think this is typical of all handicap people.

as for that last statement. i worked with a guy that had a handicap card and would park in the handicap spot here at work, especially when it was raining.
i new he was not handicap so i confronted him. he told me it was his wifes and he needed it to guote "so i will have a place to park at walmart" and that anyone in his family could use it.
i printed the rules for handicap parking and gave it to him and told him if he did it again i was turning him in. he stopped.

this is a joke and only a joke, if it had been a real joke, it would have been funny.
im still waiting for my meds to kick in. see, i told you it was a slow day. is it time to go yet?

Joke or no joke. the CH spots allow for the door to be fully opened in order to exit and re-enter the car. My wife just got a card. She would not look disabled to others and I think she expects some grief from others. I don't think she will abuse it, but on days when she needs it, I pity the fool that talks down to her.

We were having lunch last weekend on a patio in a strip mall. Across from us was the HC parking. We watched as people parked in the HC and got out and walked into the store seemingly just fine. You just don't know who has a bad heart, lungs, fibromyalgia and a 1000 other things.

My pet peeve is when someone leaves a shopping cart in the HC zone. I always move them. If I see someone leaving a cart in the spot I will usually ask them, "Did you want the disabled person to pull up, get out, move the cart and then park?"

Fooking idiots. But it always gets a snicker from anyone else within hearing distance.

good news for skinnies..
bad news for the tubbies..
now that being fat is a disease..

Wally world and other places will simple reverse their signage..
a few skinny slots..
couple of acres for those special people..

I could get one because of my hearing loss..
but it would look silly in the P..

I have the card due to my SCI. I use it on bad days or when parking is really far from where I need to be. But since I can walk a fair distance using my cane I never, ever take a spot if there is only one space remaining.

I became enraged at a Devils game recently when I was denied HC parking due to crowding while watching two guys run, RUN out of a tagged car in an HC spot. That really chaps my azz.

Well, my Doctor has been telling me to get one of those card for a while, based on my COPD & heart condition, but I don't mind walking and would rather an elderly person have those spots.

nothing like going to lowes and see a pickup truck LOADED with shovels, ladders, tools and what not and parked in a HC spot.

not all the HC spots here are big spots, some are just regular spots and blue.

thats what makes it so "funny" (not necessarily ha ha) is that if they have problems, why not the closest spot?

one of the cars a lady got out, not HC. her mother stayed in the car. im sure it was her moither that was HC, very very old. she walked down and got food togo.

On my last trip to traffic court there was a sad case before mine where an elderly man, who clearly deserved a HC ID, had gotten a monster ticket for using a fake one. Actually, the cop was only writing him for not having one displayed. The old man protested, said he had one in the glove box, had forgotten to display it and then handed the cop a long-expired one that had been registered to someone who was now deceased. Such an idiot. Old man had since gotten his own legitimate HC ID and brought it to court. He clearly could have long ago qualified for one. Judge was really trying to not throw the book at him, but handing a bogus one to a cop was just too much for her. He couldn't afford the $250 fine either and had to go on a payment plan. You'd think someone that age would have a little more sense.

This, my mother has had both hips done.

Watching her walk around you'd never know it but during the recovery you need to minimize some of your movement and being able to open the door fully and having space to maneuver is critical.

What about guys with bald heads? Sun exposure causes skin Cancer. We need to park close so we can get out of the sun quick.

Or not. Unless you meant to not drive altogether.

Most places the fine for parking in an HC spot are greater than a fire hydrant, or double parking.

A buddy of mine got a monster ticket for parking in a HC spot with no sign in front of it and what he later recognized as a very faded old HC logo on the asphalt. This was 20 yrs. ago. He went back with a camera the next day and they had repainted it and put a sign in front. I've seen plenty of parking lots that were resurfaced or redesigned with HC spots moved and the old ones not covered or paint removed, making it sort of iffy as to whether it still was a HC spot.

I got a parking ticket once for parking in front of a bare pole where a no parking sign had once been. Cop sitting in his car watched me do it, said nothing and had put a ticket on my windshield by the time I came out 10 min. later. I called him up and bent his ear about it. He said he'd see me in court. Judge took one look at the cop's photo, didn't even ask for mine and dismissed it all. I walked over to the cop and thanked him for coming to court.

After my accident last year, I was in a wheel chair for 2 months, and a walker for 2 months due to my shattered (broke in 10 places) pelvis. Nothing pissed me off quicker than parking out in the general parking, and having to be wheeled, or limp past the healthy idiots in giant SUVs who somehow got a handicap parking permit to feed their laziness. Perhaps out of stubborn pride, I refused to get a permit for the few months I would be disabled.

Same here.....took a picture went to court, the wanker mall cop never showed.....went by his cubicle and threw dismissal at him and dropped my drawers.

Almost went to mall jail....

They mall never realised he didn't show......he got a week off w/o pay.

You guys have no idea just how silly the whole issue of "special" parking spots can get. The unit I work in is a headquarters battalion for a major Army command. We have a new building that has the official "green" stamp of approval. So... we are required to have a certain percentage of hybrid spots, fuel efficient vehicle slots, and carpool/vanpool slots. I recently had to write the parking policy for this nightmare. I was swamped with requests for things like "expectant mother" parking.

The best part of all of this is that the military police will only enforce violations of the handicap spaces. So even when I get the e-mail from some colonel telling me that he witnessed a person parking their 70's muscle car in a hybrid spot I can't do much about it. I was told to develop a "parking violation" document that I will be required to place on the violators. I was suggested that it say "you are a douche, move your car" but my boss was not happy with that solution. So now I have to do parking enforcement duty once a week. This exciting event begins at 0530 when my minions and I fan out across the parking lot to place parking violations on all the Dodge Chargers and F250s squeezed into hybrid spaces. Can you guess where all the violations end up?
