It's important to find a balance between saving and having a fun, enjoyable life. Unfortunately just about everything in life j enjoy doing is really expensive.

Again balance... I setup the 401k, the life insurance, the direct deposit to savings for the rainy day (I'm 23 and have enough cash to live on for a year with no income).

After all that is taken care, it's time to start living. While I have certainly benefited, I feel my parents are too conservative with their money. Life is too short to not have any fun. When one of my buddies calls and says let's go to Vegas in 3 weeks, I don't hem and haw, I start looking at flights. Life is much more fun that way.

If you want to party with the beautiful people it's gonna cost.
IMHO, it's the prices that make these places so exclusive not the food, drink or service. They screen for the "money is no object" crowd and the "wannabe" crowd. And they get it. Interesting business model, but exclusivity always seems to work in any economy.

When I was in school (working 2 jobs to pay for it, along with everything else) we use to ddrink that cheap swill on 15 cent beer night, where ever was to eat, I look at it now, I went without so later in I could afford to drink what I wanted and eat well, life is too short for cheap beer & pizza hut... I too have always set up a budget, and it grew as income did, later as my job required..
I don't mind paying for quality, but I refuse to pay more just to say that I did or prove that I could... gprsh924, keep up the good work, it will serve you well..

A high end drink here in Hermosa Beach on a friday or saturday night will run between 7 and 12 dollars- that's picking top shelf stuff.

A unspecified, wells rum & coke will run $5-6.

A 12oz beer anywhere from $4-8

Of course, there are more expensive exceptions. I once found a $500+ tab in my pants pocket when doing laundry in the morning.... it happens..

Sammy you are correct: A truly rich man owns time.
Nailed it.
