AND our speed limits are heavily enforced...and there are speed cameras almost everywhere; including some of those horrid point to point ones...all in the name of road safety of course (not revenue raising; never that ).

Flies can be terrible.

Tax on cars is ridiculous.

Large parts of the country are under an ozone hole - so lots of skin cancer.

When you get tired of the place, its hard (and expensive) to get away.

Dodgy, low-ethics and "take no prisoners" business and political culture.

High incidence of that tiresome and rude male machismo thing.

High incidence of loud masculine women.

Large inhospitable outback with many nasty creatures.

Lots of loud masculine women. Not true. Most Aussie girls are sweet but we do have "Bogens" who are very loud and obnoxious. Much the same as your "trailer park trash".

My daughter lives in Alice Springs. It's a beautiful place with lots of well paid jobs.

Seriously though, if you disregard all the crap you can't control, like politics and dickheads, it is a great land. The climate is extremely different from north to south, and east to west. We have so many varying landscapes it's not funny.
As for the biteys, I have Redback spiders around my house. I leave them alone and all is well. I do kill them if they are anywhere near my dog though.

Never leave the car if you break down in the outback. This is written all over material handed to tourists, and what do they do? leave the car and end up dead. Big white 4x4 is easier to see than skinny white dude.

LOl...I think it's funny people write that sort of stuff......because, mostly it's true...lol. We take the piss out of ourselves all the time. We even joke about the accent some of us have. Like that pub in a Crocodile Dundee....no joke....I have to been to outback watering holes and those guys are real...lol.

• yes the flies are bloody terrible
• our taxes generally are high
• we have high incidence of skin cancer
• it's not cheap to leave as we're so far away
• our political culture is soooo dodgy at the moment that it makes me sick (political animal that I am) and as for business - well the take no prisoners tactics are pretty much alive and well in big business here (like elsewhere)
• macho males...yeah got those; but they're in declining numbers and I don't waste my time associating with them so don't notice them much . If they really p!#s me off then I can transform rather easily into your next observation and tell them very loudly where to stick it in no uncertain terms (we Aussie women don't take kindly to s*&t...)
• masculine women...um....I see more attractive ones than 'butch' ones down here, although I must say I worry about the new culture of tramp stamps on older women and the new fad of it's OK to show a rather marge muffin top
• many nasty critters...not just in large outback as noted; but most are more scared of us (thankfully)
• didgeridoos - in the right (always male) hands; they can sound quite amazing. Otherwise I'd sooner they be used as an ornament than be badly played

I think I am going to give her a list of the deadlies, sunblock, a warning about the beautiful women, and a few pictures of my son. If that doesn't change her mind I will just wish her good luck.

If this sounds familiar it is a repeat of an earlier post. I had to ask my daughter-in-law if I could share her photo. Even though she's a model she is careful about where her image appears.
Anyway, my daughter-in-law Australian. Further proof that the gals look a little rough down there.



Other than the fact that she pronounces the letter "O" as "oi" (Oil without the
"l") which makes her impossible to understand at times, she is delightful. Australians are kind of like Americans who talk funny.

Been twice - going again in 2012....Love the people, I can even understand a Queenslander now. To show that attitudes of the men, I had a buddy from NSW stay with me a few weeks while he toured the US on a M/C some years ago. I asked what his wife thought of him taking off: "She can't *****, I bought her a new washing machine and put tires on her car before I left!" That's the attitude of the men there. They treat their "Shelia's" horribly.

Only downside for me was: High prices on just about everything. A few days of driving thru the Outback was enough to last me a lifetime. That's about it.......Didn't run across any nasty critters or even a cane toad...

i want "mad max" as my tour guide, and "whats her name" up above with the kawboy hat as my diving instructor. the only thing i learned after 34 years of scuba diving is:sharks bite and EVERYTHING underwater is magnified 1.5X! looking at her underwater, would be a very enjoyable dive.
