The Lone Ranger Movie

Just came back from the Cast and Crew screening of it at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. It was written and directed by the same people who did the Pirates 1-3 movies, so its sort of like those. 2 hrs, 40 min! A bit long. I wasn't bored, and found it entertaining. Better than I thought it would be based on my read of the script two years ago. I won't give away what was CGI and what was not, yet. In a lot of scenes, to me, its easy to tell.

If you see it, let me know what you think. I have no ownership of this. I had nothing to do with the creative side. So it won't hurt my feelings about your thoughts.

I'll tell you some interesting stories, especially about the trains. You know, mechanical stuff.

Go and see it, I need another penny in my Disney stock.

The last 3 movies that I've seen have been good, Iron Man 3, Star Trek 2 and Man of Steel. There was a part in the beginning of Man of Steel that was very obviously cgi including the actors in a very low action portion. I thought it was a bit bizarre, but the movie was excellent.

I've seen the trailers for The Lone Ranger, and I wasn't so sure about it. It looks like TONS of action, and Johnny Depp as Tanto seemed a bit odd, but I can't think of anything that JDepp has done that has been bad. I'm willing to give it a go.

I saw that the Premiere showing was in Lawton OK. I thought that was strange.

They should have named it Tonto considering all the hype and press Depp is getting. The posters are all Depp, wonder if he owns the show the way he owns the buzz. I understand his box office draw but didnt casting consider that the movie is 'the LONE Ranger' and that he would have stolen the light from Archer?

I heard some Native Americans are not at all pleased with Depps portrayal of Tonto.

I'd go see it just because I've always thought Cheryl Carasik is one of the most talented decorators working today. I hope it does well, what was the final budget on the film? I heard it went a "bit" over.

The final costs was around $285 Million.

Cheryl's work was awesome.

I'll go see it simply because I used to listen to the Lone Ranger on the radio in the late '40s and watched the TV show in the '50s. I wish they would make a new Zorro movie too.

I heard today on NPR that Navajo Indians came and 'blessed' the set. The Navajo spokesman was pleased with Depp's portrayal of Tonto, but there were other Indian groups who were'nt real happy....

Also heard that Depp basically created his own costume! How many other actors can tell the producers that they're going to wear a crow on their head, and have the majority of the suits agree - on a film that costs over a quarter billion dollars!

(And this is the first time I've ever heard of an actor named Army Hammer, but I don't get out much anymore...

Yep, grandson. He play the twins in that movie about Facebook.

He doesn't need to work. He worked very hard on his horsemanship. Practiced every day for hours.

I heard the NPR interview/story also. Seems that some "expert" doesn't like how Tonto was played.

I remember The Lone Ranger and Tonto from radio days, and I like Johnny Depp's various portrayals, (esp. as John Dillinger), so I will definitely go see it, and post my impressions for you, Hugh.
