Free Lunch. No such thing?

22 parks around here in just one city. Free lunch to anyone 2 to 18. Think it's to keep the union workers busy over the summer? Lots of official school workers in attendance. Many mini-vans showing up with 5-7 kids each. None look malnourished. My tax dollars at work...

So was the lunch any good? Might as well get some if you're paying for it!

Something like 96% of students in North OC get free lunches during the school year. 3% of South OC students get free lunches. Guess who pays.

Oh, my bad - looks like a local or possibly state-funded program, not federal. So it'd be rich Porsche owners paying through their $600-a-year, you-get-two-days-to-renew registration fees, or possibly the property taxes on their McMansions.

I suppose I can think of worse things to be spending money on than lunches for poor kids, but geez! They're not even in school!

"None look malnourished." The sad fact is that kids in poverty still eat a lot but its all junk.

Make sure you don't exclude all those undocumented aliens.

Another event that should have an I.C.E. van parked in front of.

I guess I had that coming. But I only pay for free lunches for undocumented kids in LA county.

The point is that none of them would go hungry.

Isn't making your kids breakfast or lunch part of the responsibilities of being a parent. Seems to me people did it for millennia!

For HughR

Apparently they're everywhere. Here's one in Claremont, CA. Which, if I'm not mistaken, is in LA county and will continue to drain Hugh's wallet!

Don't have more kids than you can afford, if you can't afford any, don't have them. Unfortunately, that message of responsibility never gets learned any more... We had 2 kids because we could afford 2 kids, it's as simple as that...
