Oh, if it had gone to my fenders, I'd be doing the headlight washer delete too.

sorry to see it -- did you take any photos of the scene showing the 2 cars, parking slots, etc.?

many states make it clear that your are entitled to factory parts

just get a written est. and send it to his ins. co. after they contact you; be very clear and specific when they call - the ins. co. will cold call you and probably record it or have a 2nd person listening in & taking notes

you may want to not answer the phone for a while; let them leave a msg. and call back after you rehearse what to say - be sure not to fib; just rehearse

believe me, his ins. co. is NOT on your side

that does seem like an unusually spendy bumper cover...

No, we went down the aisle to exchange info and get out of traffic. I really doubt he's going to contest this, but I'm pretty sure he'll want to go the insurance route. Patrick said to just have the adjuster meet me at their shop and he'd explain it all to them. Anyone's deal with Farmer's for such stuff? While it sounds pretty expensive for the bumper job, it's not like I'm claiming injury. $2200 is nothing to them.

I'll call him in the morning and tell him the bumper price alone is $1300 before any painting or install. I'm sure he'll tell me to call Farmer's.

If I were you, I wouldn't start throwing any numbers around unless the guy/driver (or owner) throws an inadequate number at you, and at that point, I'd say, "I've done some checking and that's not gonna get the job done. All I want is what's fair and a decent repair. I'm not looking to put the screws to you."

YMMV, but at this point, the ball's in their court. Seems like it would be smart to be cool and let 'em do their thing and hit it back to you.

The ball is definitely in my court. The guy wants me to call him with an estimate. What am I supposed to say? "Gimme your best offer." I'm not out for vengeance. I have no reason to call Farmer's first. Maybe the money means nothing to him and he'll hand over the cash. But he was asking me today what I thought it would run. I told him I hadn't looked at those parts costs in many years and they were surely a lot higher now with the dollar so weak and the 993 so old.

Anyway, I just heard from a local Rennlist buddy who knows how to turn a wrench that he'll do the install with me if I have it sprayed locally and want to DIY the rest. He confirmed that Sunset gets $1300 for the bumper cover, whether it's US/Euro, turbo/NA. So I guess Farmer's will have that info too. Then figure paint and labor to R&R. Could be $2200.

Rick, maybe I read through the thread too fast and missed something you said.

Thankfully it's been awhile since I've had to deal with a whang, but the last time it happened it was minor, and the adjuster either came to look at the car or asked me to drive it over to the claims office for hm to have a look.

He wrote up a claim and cut me a check and told me if I couldn't find someone to repair it to my satisfaction for that price, let him know. Nationwide.

I can't remember if it's a metallic shade on your car, but chances are to get it right it's gonna have to be blended and tinted into the fenders and hood otherwise it'll stick out like a sore thumb...

Otherwise, if you need a hand ripping it apart let me know..

Am I missing something? What's wrong with "It's going to cost $2200. I can show you the estimate. If you want to pay it, fine. Otherwise I'll have to call Farmers." I can't imagine that a guy who drives a pickup truck would know where/how to get a serious estimate for fixing a Porsche. Why expect him to?
It was a good to keep the weapons out of it. If anyone threatened me for causing a minor fender bender it would guarantee maximum non cooperation and the maximum delay I could create before settling.

had a lady rear end our odyessy a while back, less damage than what you show in your pics as it she was skidding when we contacted. brought it to the place that only works on foreign cars like ferraris porsches, bmw, audi.. turned out to be a $1700 bill and that was with the cover repainted. you might have damage underneath the cover.

Go to a decent body shop and get an estimate, in writing. Get a couple more, if you have the time. Give them to the guy and let him tell you what he wants to do. Hope that he gives you cash.

Farmer's sucks. They once paid me the princely sum of $264 to completely repaint a Corvette. Think there was ever a time where $264 was enough?

Like Angela says, urethane bumpers can be repaired. If the bodyshop doesn't do it in house, I'm sure they can send it out. Comes back in prime and they "paint and hang."

FWIW, I would not let anyone blend back into the hood and fenders. It should be good enough on its own or be reshot.

I didn't know they ever repaired 993 bumpers. I thought they were always replaced. I don't want this thing patched.

Rick, you are the injured party...you deserve a proper repair.

So RL, it sounds like you're trying to do this outside of the insurance claims process, right? Why? What's your upside? You've been in enough accidents to know how this works.

How am I doing this outside the insurance claims process? It took me less than 5 min. to call Patrick's and then the at-fault driver today to tell him what the new, unpainted bumper alone was going to cost. He's not a Porsche guy, so he has no idea what's required or what it costs. I have also asked an injured party to give me a shot at paying cash before contacting my insurer. This guy just told me to call Farmer's, so I just left a vm with his agent. I'm researching my options, so I have an idea of what it's going to take to make this right and don't prematurely accept an offer from Farmer's. What's wrong with that?

OK. Don't waste your time talking to the guy that hit you. You have an insurance company to interface with the other party. Let them. You interface with your insurance company to make sure you're satisfied. You get some shops you trust to come up with estimates to repair your car, so you can have that information ready to ensure your insurance company is doing right by you. That's all you need to do. That's all you should do.
