Making money off YouTube, how to?
Taking to a coworker... said she has a friend who does comedy skits, puts them on YouTube and makes money doing it. I ask how? She says when you click on his YouTube a commercial pops up and he gets paid every time that happens.
I have a friend that is a starving artist (stand up comedian) and this would be great for him since he hasn't had any work in years. Has anyone here done anything like that? Know how to set it up? I have never posted anything to YouTube so have no knowledge of how it works. Tank ewe!

Wouldn't you need a lot of fans/followers or traffic before anyone would pay you? If he really hasn't had any work in years, how well do you think he'll do on Youtube?

It can be a nice source of income.
Lot of work to make a living at it but people are doing it. One of my guys does it kind of part time. You need to get a reasonable amount of content and followers then apply for the ad program. They don't accept everyone.

They interviewed a local guy (early 20's) on TV who makes his living on youtube.
He said you need several vid's with a million hits each, plus an advertiser who wants to link to your video, to do it. youtube splits the revenue with you. Not only does it have to have a million hits it must continue to have hits, so as the hits go down so does the revenue. You must be continuously adding new vid's (that get a million+ hits) to keep the cash flowing.

Pretty much what I thought... you need to get a bunch of hits before they will pay you.
He has a bunch of video (taped a lot of his performances) that he could convert to digital and post. he is currently making $0 (wife has job and supports him) so anything would be a plus. He has been onstage with Garret Morris and met Dice Clay, Paulie Shore.

My wife makes money off Youtube. They contacted her when she hit about 600,000 views on her video. He continues to add more, and generally revenue goes up each month bit by bit.

We have 130 million views on our channel, and pull in about 6 million more a month.
The first thing you get when you establish your channel and reach the view volume (challenge #1) is AdSense placements. These are advertisers just looking for "eyeballs." They won't pay much, but YouTube (through its parent, Google) handles everything and issues a check at the end of each month. When you get to be huge, and pull in over, say, 3 million views a month, consistently, YouTube promotes your channel to advertisers based on the observed demographics. The ad rates can be a bit more than AdSense. It all happens automatically, and you get a check after the second month. It's a nifty system, and if you have a low-budget, one-man show like Ray William Johnson GOOFY RUN - YouTube ...that gets 12 million views a week... You don't need a "job."

My rather measly account was selected by YouTube for monetization last week. I haven't moved forward with it though. All the videos I have that get hits are tapings of live performances by NIN and Edgar Cruz.

Up the hill from the Rock Store.
My buddy Paul makes money taking still pictures there. Rnickeymouse seems to have fans from further abroad, though.
