I've got nothing to hide and if I get a ticket for not signalling 300' before an intersection I'll have an opportunity in court to state my case. If I'm open with the information they wont tear my car apart looking for stuff because they wont suspect anything illegal is in there. If the front of my car isn't smashed in they wont suspect I just committed hit and run. If I give them a legit address for the girlfriend they can go chat to her too! I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I've got nothing to hide from the cops and I've got no problem volunteering information. Withholding it puts you in the same realm of all the asshats that police officers encounter every day who really are up to no good. I'm sure those people are also difficult to deal with when stopped, I'm sure they too withhold information and act suspiciously when questioned. The police deal with the scum of the earth every day, they have no way of knowing whether you are a decent guy or not, except for how you respond during your short encounter. Lets agree to disagree. ![]() All the above being said, I don't for one minute think that the officer in the video behaved appropriately. I just don't think the camera guy helped himself. Andy, you are reasoning under the thought that Law Enforcement Officers do not profile, do not look for PC/RAS and that they have an interest in your well-being. They do not. They have one job and one job alone: make a citation or an arrest. Do not provide them the opportunity to do so.
Maybe you should spend some time and understand how the system works. Don't Talk to Cops, Part 1 - YouTube Don't Talk to Cops, Part 2 - YouTube

Well Andy, I do have a big gash in the front of my car because I'm still dealing with secondary insurance co., because the owner of the truck that hit me was uninsured but the guy driving it was insured. So maybe I would be suspected of hit and run, were a dark blue Porsche reported to be involved in such a thing. Co-incidentally, the guy who hit me also owns the same year, make and model truck as the truck he was driving when he hit me, which he didn't own. Imagine if this had been a hit and run with injury, what a world of sheet he or his buddy would have been in, had they been pulled over in each other's truck and started playing 20 questions with a cop looking for such a truck.
The worst thing you can assume is that, because you have nothing to hide, you having nothing to lose by playing along with a cop's fishing expedition. But go ahead. It's your ass on the line. FWIW, when I brought my first car home (1970 BMW 2002), I cleaned it all out and found some loose ammo and a bag of white powder. Imagine if I hadn't found that and, after several years of ownership, consented to a police search because I had nothing to hide. That was in NJ, so I'd still be in jail. When I did landscaping in college, my boss had several total beater pickup trucks I drove to various jobs. He always had guns and loose ammo laying around in those trucks. I had a CCW, so it didn't really matter. But allowing a police search of whatever car you're driving is really rolling the dice, no matter how clean you think it is. Cops love people like you though. You will convict yourself one of these days and the state will sit back and watch you pay. I make them work for it.

Not the same here and here is what we are talking about. When I was young and stupid I got pulled over a lot for being young, having long hair and driving a nice car. I always knew it because their first question was "is this your car". I ended up with more than a couple of undeserved citations that cost me time, money and points which raised my insurance. Well, at least that police auction car arrest was not a result of anything the driver could have prevented. He didn't consent to a search. The drugs were in plain sight, so that's all they needed.
