Tragic Loss - 15 yr old dies in fall

The 15 year old son of the comprtoller of my company and a 25 year friend of the family lost her 15 year old son last night in a fall. He and his buddies were screwing around on the roof of a school building last night and slipped and plunged 5 floors down a chimney landing in the basement. He was killed instantly.

The mom , who is like a sister to me, my family and all at the office has been plauged with tradgedy in recent years, with many close family losses, her husband passed away two years ago and I am afraid this will put her over the edge. She has never recovered from her husband's loss. I feel so incredibly sad and sickened by this I can hardly speak about it. I am getting ready to go see her and offer my condolences. My wife and daughter were at her home today and the mom is as described by my wife " beyond devestation", she is almost catatonic. Thanks for listening. The story..... 15-year-old Nick Gryak falls to death from roof of Brooklyn school building

Very sorry to hear... I don't know how people deal with losses like this. I would be beyond catatonic.

This may be an important time for you as a close friend to step up to make sure that Nick's mom is not left alone right now. There are times when we just can't deal with what life challenges us with alone. All the best to you, stay strong Richard |

Thanks to all who sent their condolences. There was a candlelight vigil last night for young Nick, about 1000 people from classmates, students, teachers and nieghboorhood folks turned out. Very touching. We had to carry his mom from the scene because she fainted multiple times. Today she has been in Nick's bed sobbing that he will come home tomorrow. I am so sickened by all of this. I don't know, but can only pray she comes out of this incoherent state.

The first viewing is tonight. I am sure it will be massive. Another tomorrow and the funeral mass and burial Saturday. This is the time that true friendship shows itself. My wife and I will be there with our friend thru it all.

The loss of a child has to be the worst grief....it goes so much against the natural order of things.

I feel sorry for the parents and friends like everyone else. But I have to ask why in the hell were they on the roof of a five story building under construction?

15 year olds do schit like that. It's natural. We used to break into construction sites downtown after seeing a band and climb the crane. Sometimes we'd hang a banner. Absolutely insanely dangerous in terms of potential falls. So sorry to hear about this kid. Just awful.
