Zip line

So my wife decided she wanted to try this on her birthday.
Well let me tell you after the 4 of us (2 daughters) climbed the stairs up to this contraption i was just a tad weak kneed. I had visions of going into cardiac arrest. They strap you in with your knees pressed against the gate and then.......your off.
It's a half mile to the bottom and they claim a speed of 50 MPH but i doubt i attained it. My wife and kids beat me to the bottom by quite a margin. Must be they gave the old geezer the slow one.
This video must be from last year as there are now 4 zip lines.
It was actually pretty fun.
Anybody else tried it?

I built one over my parents pool as a teen. Lots of fun. At the end of summer, I put the rope behind the lower end anchoring point, an oleander bush and thought it would be okay... Strung it the next summer for a friend, I decided to take the fist test run and Snap! rope broke as I was just about to cross some concrete, ended up on the grass.

I'd jump at the chance to do one of those long ones!

Haven't done that particular kind of zipline, but I have done a couple of rope courses with some ziplines near Quebec City & near Washington, DC.

Done a few ziplines. Once you make the jump, its really, really fun.

I'd love to do one of the 60-70ft high, 2000ft long ones...

Did it in the jungles of southern Mexico over some river. They claim there are crocs in there. I think they want to mess with us. My wife didn't make a sound as she went across it. It was a long one. Loads of fun.

There is one in Corona now but I have not gone on it. It does look like a blast.

What stops you at the end, a brake or does it go uphill?

It does go up hill toward the end which slows you some, then you slam into a series of springs that are stacked on the cable which stops it.

Geez, is Bromley still open? They put in those go-carts many years ago to try to stay open. And on that note, did Magic ever re-open?

Looks like fun, I hear there is one on Catalina Island now, from the mountains down into the north end of Avalon. I just haven't been over there in years.

I did one this past spring in Costa Rica that had 18 lines. It was kinda boring. Seriously, I don't see what the big deal is. Now, if they had a 1/2 mile zip going over a 2,000 ft gorge, that would be something. Or, across the Grand Canyon.

I rode a huge one in a movie I was in up in Oregon, it went from the top of a power station and went for miles. Tom Petty launched it. What a blast.
Oh wait, that wasn't me.

Did a high end one in Costa Rica last summer for a few hours. Criss-crossed ravines, etc., pretty high up in the air.
Way cool.

It looks like a bit of friction the whole way, not a free flowing fast cable ride.

I've done a zip line at a camp ropes course, here is my then 14 yr old daughter enjoying a little more freedom than those seats allow. The run goes across a gully between trees, I'll estimate 350 ft long and about 50 ft up at the highest.

My son was 5 at the time. The camp is called Okizu near Oroville CA, and provides a camp experiance for kids with cancer, as well as separate weeks for their siblings (who give up a lot of attention) and weekends for families. Thomas was too young to attend alone, so we went with him. He almost didn't make it to his second birthday.

They have lots of climbing and post and cable walks, even an elevated 'freeride' course for wheelchairs. Okizu Foundation: Supporting Families with Childhood Cancer

They are there and its a big draw. My old neighbor next to my parent's has a place there from way back, they work the zip line. Loads of fun.

I think there's a place like that in Vancouver. They go over some pretty high and rough terrain. It is in the park next to the world's longest suspension bridge. I forget what it was call.

My wife, daughter, and I did a zip line tour through through the rain forrest near Puerto Valarta Mexico. 85' high and about a dozen zip lines. It was a blast. I'd do it again. (Just not there)
