My Old Bicycle Resto
A friend of mine was throwing out an old 10-speed racer from his basement.
I managed to save it and do a cheap resto... Here is the bike originally, looks like early eighties and was complete junk ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I stripped all the rusty parts off and started prepping the frame for the powder coater.
The frame only had some surface rust and I filed/hacksawed the cable clips etc. and generally cleaned it up. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The frame was sent away to be powder coated.
In the meantime I started collecting parts. It was more about creating something cool that looked nice as opposed to a lightweight, high end bike. I found this cotter-pin crank set and old pedals from a store that imports bikes from india $35 for the lot. ![]() ![]()

For the required look I had to spend a bit more money...
![]() ![]() As the bike is inspired by an early 1900's racer (coaster brake), and wanting to use large tires, I had some wheels custom made by a company here in Australia.

Nice! I love to see an old bike brought back to life. What brand was the bike originally?

It's an Australian Cyclops sold mainly in department stores etc. I like the steel lug frame and the emblem.

Then came assembly.
I searched long and hard to find the right bars, and even toyed with using some Electra cruiser bars cut-down and turned upside down. I ended up finding some Soma 'Major Taylor' bars and a stem from a swap-meet. To finish off the bars I found some Brooks leather tape (matching the seat) complete with cork ends. The rest of the parts are generic as the bike is mainly used for short rides around the beach and to the local cafe ![]() The finished bike, with period style slammed seat.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I see you've clocked your tires to the valve stems; I've always done that, too, except I put the label opposite the valve stem, I guess to balance it out, ha ha.
Nice bike.

.
Nice job. A beautiful clean look. Is that saddle a B17? Mine is getting broken in - finally...'love it.

The seat is a B17, they are great once they wear in, Im hoping for a nice patina over time.
The rear wheels are custom made with a coaster brake (back pedal). I really wanted a clean look without cables etc, and never wanted to go fixed gear. It stops well and does great skids. ![]()

I'm down to four. Are we in some type of bike-geek 12 step program?
Love this retro bike. Not a fan of Brooks seats, but I have to admit that nothing else looks as right on this bike as that seat. angela
