I love the smell of welding in the morning.

ZOOmiata, the neighbor is not going to come up with a reasonable solution although charging them with the task would be fun. I wonder if their gardener has a solar powered mower.

Can you describe the headgear and bags with tassels? Odd.

Tell them you are putting up some solar panels and are trying to save the enviroment.

I would continue the job. Tell to put theilr ipods on while outside.

Good luck

You could have a Satanic orgy sacrificing bald eagles and other endangered animals, but don't paint your house trim a contrasting shade.

Tell them to get off your property and don't come back. Continue your work, knock them off @ 3:00 and don't do any work on Sunday. Most people have to do house and yard work on Saturday as they have to work all week and this is their only chance. Saturday sounds like a foundry around my neighborhood but come Sunday morning, quiet as a mouse. We all relax and pop the tops on a few.

I disagree -- and it is a chance to show good faith. People rise to the occassion when given the chance.

I'm sure they would rise to the occasion. I just don't think from what I read here that they would be reasonable. And for that reason I say they are out of touch.

I have to say I live in a fairly gentrified designated historic district and I hear dogs constantly, chain saws on any given day including one Christmas day, construction promptly at 7 am and gardeners any day and a few times on Thanksgiving (Mexicans could give a turkey crap about Thanksgiving, but they do respect Jesus). Landscaping occurs 7 days a week and the sod truck was out in the street last Sat at 5:30 am with the fork lift beeping in reverse.

A welding rig after 9 am on a Sat? Phffft.

First of all, be sure your generator won't get you in trouble with emissions codes.
Next, apologize and suggest that they contact the people that hired you since you will be happy to use a more environmentally friendly system if they want to increase what they are paying you to do the job.
Finally, point out (with a pleasant "have a nice day" smile on your face) that their child's disposable diapers have an environmental impact that is 1000 times more obnoxious than your generator and they should save the planet starting with their own back yard.

Damn hippies, Get outta my yard. I would have a hard time not telling them to go pound salt. I hate people interrupting my work as much if not more than these tree huggers hate people ruining their enviroment. Saturday afternoons are fair game in my book.

I left for a long lunch. I told the guys do not stop no matter what they say or do. Unless the cops show up. That would never happen. I was back by 1:30 and we did go until 3:00pm. The neighbor's did not come out at all. I think it was too hot for them. Heck they live on the other side four houses down from our job site. I try to understand the noise issue if they were right next door.

I know nothing about emission codes because I do not own a generator. I have been thinking about this a bit. It may have started it when I pulled up and parked in front of their house with my Dodge diesel truck a couple of weeks ago. They gave me the dagger stare because it was so loud.

I understand the situation with the noise and being a Saturday. The most important thing for me are my clients. I must make sure they get their project done in a timely manner. I wouldn't stop because some tree huggers think I am polluting their air. If they don't like construction noise or pollution, stop pestering people and allow them to finish, so they can get out of their hair sooner then later. Any upgrade to an old home in a established neighborhood is good for their home value. What the heck are they thinking?

I am thinking about causing trouble and park my diesel near their house and leave it running for few minutes. It should not be against the law to do that? I started the truck to warm it up one morning, around 9:30 at my own house. This is during the week. Someone turned it off when I ran inside to get some paper work. It was too loud for them I suppose. I love to find out who it was that turned off my truck.

That would suck. I think I'd skip weekend work if any part of that is valid.

angela

I think all small engine made after a certain year (08, I think?)must have a cat on it. My welder is a certified and does lots of commercial work, so I would think his equip. should be up to code. I will find out Monday. With any equip. running, I am sure they are never as clean as a car or it always smells like crap.

Close, Los Feliz. 3/4 mile north of the actual lake itself.

Yep, makes sense. Same "culture". A few of my high-school friends (I'm 26 btw) have moved into that area and it's rubbed off on them a little bit. One of them made a comment about the gas mileage of my "old Porsche" and questioned its emissions and environmental friendliness. I told them my carbon footprint is infinitely smaller than theirs as my dad bought the car new and I've been driving it since I was 16, whereas they go through a new whatever ****box car made of recycled soda cans with good fuel mileage that their parents lease for them every 3 years.

Just make sure everything is legal and keep to yourself. I wouldn't waste my time being antagonistic toward the complainers, just smile / be nice and tell them you've made sure everything is in accordance with the law.

I know all about that crowd. I went to high school there in Los Feliz. The are coming over to my hood as well in Mt Washington.

I am great at killing them with a smile.

Hopefully for your sake that generator is rated at under 50 hp. if it isn't you could be in trouble.
Operating any internal combustion engine in an industrial setting that is capable of putting out over 50 hp requires a permit from the AQMD PRIOR to operating and significant tracking of operating hours, amount of fuel used, etc.

The AQMD doesn't care what condition it is in, they just want the money for the permit. If you don't pay them their kickback they get mad.
It does not matter if you own it or rent it or a sub is using it, still your responsibility.

Note to all construction workers in So Cal, keep it under 50 hp.
BTW, a 40 hp generator costs almost twice as much to rent as a 75 hp unit. Go figure.

If the generator is under 50 hp, tell those tree-hugging enviro-nazi wimps to go pack sand.

Actually they do care....they are banning older engines and making them replace them with new cleaner models. The old permit system was in place so they could track them and then make them shut them down.
