Is PURE GAS making a comeback?
Stations with pure gas are cropping up all over Charleston, SC. Is it happening elsewhere too?

I found a couple of places to get it, but it's about $0.50 a gallon more expensive than the ethanolized "junk" 93 octane at all the run-of-the-mill locations.

As with most things, the good stuff is illegal in Illinois...

I have a source of 92 octane no alcohol about 13 miles from home. Glad to have it...my Mustang's mileage jumped 10%. More importantly, my chain saw now runs well. It wouldn't run for krap on a gasahol-oil mix. Mower runs better too. Price not a lot more than gasahol 91 octane premium,

That is 5 in my immediate area. Plus there are 2 others just north of Mt. Pleasant.
The real interesting station is the one at Town Center. Not a lot of boat trailer traffic through there. Quote:

Not to sound like a broken record but how do you know what is listed is actually E-free? I mean what ethical standards are we holding gas station owners to?

Dunno about other states, but in Oregon, pressure from boaters, farmers, loggers, and others whose equipment would not run on ethanol forced an "exception".
Boaters especially..in the water envrionment, the alcohol would draw moisture, engines flat wouldn't run. Damned dangerous.

I'm pretty sure the people working for the department of weights and measures only check fillup volume. I do not think that these stations are being independently checked for ethanol amount - let alone the federal requirement for 10% ethanol. I know that boats and such can get pure gas but I am curious to know who is refining this fuel because it would seem pretty costly to produce this rarer fuel when 99.9% are sold E10+.

You can test for alcohol...I bought a test tube unit similar to this from:
EAA Aviation center P.O. Box 3086 Oshkosh, WI 54903-3066 phone (920) 426-5912 Fax (920) 426-6761 Forget the cost...it wasn't much. My source is alcohol free according to this test. Test gasoline for ethanol - YouTube

Nice. As long as its being verified. I know you can get non-road gasoline in alcohol free but I would do as you did and test any new station because I just don't see what is stopping a station from lying to auto owners (I imagine they wouldn't lie to boat or other non-car owners).

I buy my non alcohol gas from a station near a farm co-op store called WILCO. Dunno if they are nationwide or not. The farm lobby still has some political clout in this state.
Anyway...you asked "how do you know?" A valid question. This is one way to know. Pilots especially concerned about gasahol. Thus my aviation center source for the test kit. Water picked up by the alcohol freezes easily...not good for aircraft to have frozen water blocking fuel lines. ![]()

Cool little station opened 2 months ago off of Long Point Road by the port ... they only sell 93 octane and diesel gas. Just follow the "ethanol free" signs.
The Shell station at Town Center also has 93 octane E0. It was pricey though - around 4.07 / gallon. But that station always has jacked up prices. Of course, the SeeWee Outpost and the other station further up in Awendaw.
