Take a look at something called hydrostatic printing - cheaper, smaller, easier to do for small projects. I think I'm gonna have a plastic FAL stock set done in "walnut"
*Very* interesting indeed. Prices on the door skins I'm gonna need for the 356 are good ... too bad I'm poor...

There were a couple long threads about it. People debating whether they should have restored it to period correct condition or upgrade it like they did.The owner is going to get docked a lot of points in any concors he might enter, though. Porsche had to make some upgrades for legal reasons. They gave the car away at the Porsche Parade.

Great story...
It's interesting that the Porsche factory will do this sort of work but a "dealer" will avoid doing work on an air cooled car. ![]()

That is just the "E coating" used by every major auto manufacturer nowadays. Similar to powder coating but with liquid solvents, not air, for the pigment particles. Hook the metal to a negative terminal and the paint gun to a positve terminal and there you go, the paint sticks to the metal. It ensures paint gets in everywhere, even between spot welds and inside rockers, to protect from rust.

but they will not want their name attached to it, so essentially you'll pay to much money for something that can be done by somebody equally skilled for less money , closer @ yer home.. They will only want their name attached to something they finished completely. So i don't see why you would want to do that.

That makes sense. It is a one-off spec car, and if I had the $, worth it for a full factory restoration, but that's not in the cards for a few years. Yes, Damon at Series 900 in NH is slated to start the S next year.
