1/2 Norwegian here as well. I remember attending functions at the Sons of Norway, when I was a kid, with my grandparents. My grandfather was a sailor who wound up working in a shipyard when he came to the US.

I have never eaten Lutefisk, however.

My last name is Nyberg. My parents collect tomtes. I love Fever Ray.

Mike, I am 60 miles from Malmö. An hours trip.

I've been watching your 'Wallander' detective series this last year and can't help but notice the number of American vans/cars that appear,

why are they so popular (or is this not true)

American cars from the 50s and 60s has always been popular in Sweden. One of the largest meetings in the world is the Power Meat once a year. Even a lot of Americans use to attend.
Now, the vans, I think they are used often in criminal TV series and films, kind of representing that general stile. A kidnapper or murderer looks good cruising up in a dark painted van. :)

OK. I will settle with semi Scandinavian ancestry, Volvo, Ikea and lutfisk. Thanks guys! :D

Dottore 09-03-2011 08:22 AM

The only threesome of my entire life took place in Uppsala.

Also I'm very partial to iced Absolut and Swedish meatballs.

livi 09-04-2011 06:23 AM

Way to go, Pete!

Dottore, that must be a strong contender to post of the year. Brilliant! :D

Hey!!!

A bona fide Norwegian here! Aged 40, living in Drammen, driving a 1981 SC!

And lurking on PP BB nearly every single day!

My favorite group ever is ABBA and I play them regularly! Does that count? Otherwise I shall remain Lithuanian.
Well, I have a cottage (with my brother) near Tyssedal, Norway. It was my aunts', but they are now gone, so we sold their home in Oslo, (well, in the process of it) but are probably keeping their cottage. I only get there about every 4 years or so (not nearly enough), and we are just renting out the cottage right now.

I don't think this counts livi... but I thought I should at least banish the crickets... and perhaps help the lonely fluffies...;)
Forgive the nit picking but my good friend Livi is a fluffer. The guys with the big smile are the fluffies.SmileWavy

My bike mechanic is Finnish, does that count?

Nuthin' but luv for ya Markus!

livi 09-06-2011 09:07 AM

Every effort counts, guys!

Thanks for the kind words, flatbutt!

It seems that rather many of you can trace your ancestry to the Nordic countries.

1/4 Danish and I do a mean Swedish chef impersonation!

Also Blue eyes and blond (what is left of my hair) so I at least look like a Viking.

Funny, when I visit Solvang the paintings on the walls of the restaurants look like me.

Me on our honeymoon:

I have eaten lutefisk - many times... Christmas tradition...

Gravlaks is much better.

And fbutt... you are right - I was getting my fluffies and fluffers intermixed... ;)

ckissick 09-06-2011 03:40 PM

Part Swedish. I'll be visiting my Swedish cousins next summer. They're all from Ornskolsdvik, but one maintains a second home in Stockholm because of her job. Her name is Maud Olafsson. You may have heard of her.

Joeaksa 09-06-2011 07:52 PM

Half of my family is from Scandinavia and I used to live in Soburg (Kopenhagen) so does this count? :)

Edit, not one person has mentioned Aquivit! Every good Scandinavian has to have at least one bottle in the freezer! :)
