EWF FTW.

I'll play most any kind of music. As a bass player, few things are more fun than disco. And in fact I've been known to throw disco bass licks into jazz solos and during jamming portions of rock tunes.

If this song doesn't make you move, you don't have a pulse

Disco Inferno.

It was the thing to do if you were a kid from Brooklyn in the 70's. I went many a time to 2001Odessey disco were they made Sat Night Fever, short leather jacket and Huckapoo shirt.

when I was a kid, grade school or jr. hi. age, I keep hearing this Funky Town song. Ihave no idea who or what it is. Even today, sometimes it appears in my head and it wouldn't go away.

Come on, youtube is your friend.

Oh man is that what it is? That's lame. I have to be honest, I had a smile on my face through out the song.

Can't find the extended version on YouTube.

Totally and utterly unashamedly I admit to dancing to the long version of this (one side of the LP) many, many times and often at dawn...still have the album (yes; vinyl ;)) and along with a whole lot of other vinyl it gets dragged out from time to time and played LOUD.

lisa_spyder 09-04-2011 10:37 PM

What about:

Do The Hustle
Play That Funky Music
Don't Leave Me This Way
I Feel Love (the extended "disco" version)
Never Can Say Goodbye

Oh there's more...

You can Dance by Abba

Saw the musical "Momma Mia" in London, wasn't bad. Didn't catch the movie.

"Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight. Get down tonight."

Wait, what about that butchers job of McArthur Park by Donna Summers? Simply beautiful

Becasue they were not!

IMHO disco is/was dance music... replaced by electronic (trance, industrial, etc.)

I'm a huge Tower of Power fan... calling them disco is fightin words.

Earth, Wind and Fire weren't disco either, but they dipped a toe in the market on occasion...'That's the Way of the World' is one of the great albums of all time.

T of P and AWB never went disco, at least in my judgment.

nostatic 09-05-2011 08:49 AM

There was a lot of "toe dipping" back in the day. The "Miss You" by the Stone for example. You could argue that later ZZ Top was influenced by disco and electronica.

There is a lot of blurring of the lines... IMHO our current society obsesses with labeling everything.

Like on the country music thread someone mentioned Ray Charles... Well... OK... brother Ray did do some C&W (and freaked out a bunch a people by doing so), but I hardly think of him as a country western artist.

I am a huge Ray Charles fan and credit him with starting my interest in Jazz.

Disco was a huge money maker and yes a lot of rockers and others were getting their slice of the pie.

Anything KC and the Sunshine band!

I confess I was walking thru Ceasar's in Las Vegas and 'disco inferno' drew me in for a few drinks and dancin last week. Disco get's a bad rap, it's just music that makes you wanna dance. What's wrong with that?

I watch that 'funkytown' video and I see the seed for Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga.

AirKuhl 09-09-2011 09:12 AM

My favorite disco song:
<object width="420" height="345"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rsibHTOXPLM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rsibHTOXPLM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="345" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Although this one is right up there. If this song won't get you snorting blow off a hooker's ass, nothing will. Good times.
