Autocar runs a Camaro SS vs. Boss 302 over a standing mile
Getting tired of hating a college football team?
Here...hate a Mustang instead. Me, I like the test driver. ![]() Mustang Boss 302 vs Chevrolet Camaro video feature by autocar.co.uk - YouTube

Paul,
I believe they are mistaken on the 0 to 60 on both cars by a second. The Boss has run 0 to 60 in 4 seconds in most other car reviews. I'm glad you post car threads on a car forum, but you know you are going to get the usual bullying comments calling you a troll. You are a glutton for punishment!!

Both cars showed slow 0-60 times which can be temperature or traction issues.
However, the Camaro got really dusted off the line. Not sure if that was a driver issue or if that particular engine was a little soft. No question as to which is faster, hands down the Boss 302. But that azz-whupping off the line bears a some looking into. The Boss 302 is a factory badass. But it is the most complicated production engine that Ford has ever produced. It will be serviced by the same boobs that put six computers (and spent $8,000 of our dollars) into our diesel Ford truck before we took it away and found the short in the wiring harness ourselves. We repaired it with about 5 cents of electrical tape. Been perfect for about 3 years. So whereas I applaud Ford's endeavor and drool with admiration over the product they have built, I can assure you that I would never buy one. There is no way that the Ford dealers are going to be able to figure out issues with this engine once anything goes wrong. angela

![]() ![]() Angela, crazy as it sounds, my Bullitt has had zero problems since I bought it at the end of April '09. Dunno about the new 5.0, tho...there have been tales of people who have gone to aftermarket "tunes" losing the #8 cylinder with the 5.o GT's. The Boss 302 has stronger internals, but time will tell. There also have been problems with the Getrag 6 speed. I do wonder how many of these problems are driver caused, and how many are factory screw-ups.... Maybe the old saw of never buying the first model of anything holds true? Give 'em a year to sort out the bugs? Frankly, the only way I'd go for a Boss 302 would be if I could also justify sending it to a high end custom shop to be "bullittized", get rid of all the garish bling, give it a subtle and solid color paint job. I dunno if I have that much "car guy" left in me.

I think that not buying one for say, TWO years might be a good idea, Paul. Think about the issue with the Triton V8's and yakking the spark plugs out of the heads. Those problems showed up sporadically the first year, but by the time they had been out TWO years, between the failures and the stripped holes from changing plugs, it became very obvious that it was a serious, widespread problem.
I would love this exercise to be 100% successful for Ford, Paul. But my past issue with Ford dealers and their inability to properly diagnose/troubleshoot the vehicles that they MAKE have created a great deal of suspicion in my mind. My confidence level in their skills with this very complicated engine are absolutley zero. Man, I really hope I'm wrong... Because this car is truly brilliant. angela

But the same thing happens with Porsches...a poll would probably show that many here are unhappy with dealership service departments.

Ohhh PWD there was another time and place that I got mercilessly flogged by a member who continually thought I was a Troll and even got put on his Ignore List for a good long while. Now even though he hates to admit it he agrees with me most of time, he does occasionaly throw a TABBYDOLL at me. Ohh welllll............
However the Blue Oval is my other favorite after the early P cars, I don't mind seeing some diversity now and then.

Oh and by the way, Paul - looks like I'll get a little wheel time in a 2012 Mustang. I dont know specifically which one, but it will be a V8 and a manual transmission. My company is letting me to to a manufacturer's soiree and I have been promised driver's seat time in a V8 manual transmission Mustang.
Red hair, estrogen, and horsepower. There is no substitute - LOL! angela

I like the new Boss 302. The only negative thing I've heard or read about it is that the interior could use some "refinement" and the electronic "doodads" like Bluetooth for phone are not included... I think it's a cool car!

Interesting that the Camaro in the video is an automatic and the Mustang appears to be a manual.

What's with the flickering taillights on the GM during the first couple seconds?

[QUOTE=PorscheGAL;6238000]In this video, the Camaro takes the Boss off the line.
Probably faster driver reaction. Then the Mustang pulls away for the rest of the race
