Woo Hoo! New toy!
OK, so a good deal comes around once in a while.
Guy at work had this sitting in his garage for a while. Had a post-it note on his cubicle wall noting that it's for sale. (Price was quite high...) Talked with him a little and found out he was looking for an AR-15 in trade. Still, a little on the high side. I said, "How 'bout an SKS?". From that point, things progressed. I think I came out on top of this one... Brought it home and asked my dear wife if she'd be impressed when I kick it over and it starts for the first time. Her response - "I'll be impressed when someone drives off and you have a pocket full of cash". I'm thinking a couple of rides around the neighborhood with the kids might kill that notion. Will take a little work, though... In any case, it's dirty and needs a little TLC, but it's complete and turns over free. Parts are pretty available - and it has a pretty high demand (mainly by folks like us who had them as kids and have good memories). Here it is: ![]() ![]() |

Cool, I always wanted one of those after I saw Eric Launeville ride one in "Omega Man". Cool bike!

About a thousand years ago, on the way to our college classes, my roommate could pop wheelies with me on the back. Gotta love motorcycles that fit in a car trunk.

That was the first dirt bike I ever rode as well. I was hooked after that.

Friend of mine found a 125cc motor for one of those. And of course we installed it and can pop wheelies like nobodies business.

My brother and I slapped a big bore kit on one of those. Lots of fun. Was also one of our first experiments with N2O. It didnt last long.

Looks like it's only missing a lever and they put some aftermarket pegs on it, maybe? Nice survivor, easy-peezy restore, and you can make some money when you get tired of it and say, "See honey? Me not so dumb after all!"

40 years ago, my dad got liqoured up and bought two of these in green w/ matching green metal-flake helmets, brought them home and parked them in the kitchen. Still have a pic of my brother and I sitting on them in our underwear from that night. Should try to find the pic.
They lasted less than the summer and they were gone. : ( |

I built this little thing.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You can see my cafe project in the background. Its tank is powder coated and ready to reinstall. I just need to test the wiring, reseal the forks, and get a pipe bent for the exhaust.

My personal challenge:
Must not go overboard with making it too nice. Even if it cost nothing to begin with - I can easily see getting upside-down on making it mint. Then, let the kids at it and ride it back to worse condition than it's in now.... I had one as a kid, and when I got it - it was in much, much worse shape than this one is. The seat was nothing but duct tape, the exhaust required a beer can to replace a rotted out section, and to my dismay I learned very late that the cam chain tensioner arm was basically gone. (It never was all that strong...) I have higher hopes for this one. By the way, the missing lever isn't all that important. Redundant cable for the rear brake. I'm rambling. Hope to spend some time with the thing tomorrow. My little guy (5 1/2) has already been hounding me for a ride. Can't wait to see that smile! Thanks all for the cool responses on this post! |

Cycle Gear - TRACKSIDE: Universal Lever and Perch, The cable is $14. Both + shipping. I think on scooters it is better to have that double brake sensation with the hands. You can tell your children to squeeze both hands at the same time, instead of a hand and a foot. If they are about to run into something they may react better and not over brake the rear. You can adjust the cable tension to prevent this too. You can also adjust the throttle out so your children won't be able to go WOT or max speed.
