What's a retired F-111 and AA pilot flying these days?

Pics of my buddy's plane, sporting the paint job designed by his wife. I'll never go up in it. I know the guy...he'd love making me barf!

Go, Paul. If he is half the man you have told us about, the last thing in the world he would do is make anyone barf in his plane.

Secure, great pilots never make anyone feel stupid and sick in their airplane.

Well, I'll think about it... What do you think of the paint job? I really liked it...his wife is quite the little design lady. Colors & graphics just look great to me...but I'm no flyboy.

I'd rather have blue than the purple.

I actually prefer a predominantly white plane. It is the lightest paint, which is necessary for corrosion and UV protection.

I'm married to a Southern bell. She has no accent and doesn't want one, but she can talk the talk for humor whenever she calls it up. She's from AL, but the ones from MS are really charming in the way they talk.

Back on topic, something is missing in the paint scheme for me. I actually think it's too subtle for an aircraft. Like Max, I'd prefer some white and for contrast. Up in the sky that plane is lost. Strobes or not.

She did a great job, very subtle and tasteful.

I like it as well.

If he could keep the Grumman F-What-A-Lemon in the air then he can fly anything.

As a teen, he was one of the most accident prone guys I knew...but in the air? Perfect record.

He always spoke highly of the F-111.

I had to uncles who were engineers involved in the design and build of the F-111. Neither one thought the final product flew as well as it did on paper. It was too temperamental and didn't allow for any operation margin of error.
BTW that looks like a very cool plane to fly.

I once asked Jim why he had a 'Vette for such a short time. His response was that once you've gone Mach speeds while 200 feet off the deck, cars just don't thrill ya anymore.

So, he must have been a good F-111 pilot...his wasn't one of those that crashed.
Some did, I understand.

Nice plane. I really like the color scheme, Guess it could be hard to see in the sky? I hadn't thought of that.
It looks beautiful in the pics.
What kind of plane is it? side by side or front / back seating?

Cheers Richard

When they flew, they were incredible. If anything went wrong, it crashed and burned.

Unless the instructions by a certain father to the aerobatic pilot, explicitly were to make the passenger puke. I didn't, but the pilot and myself were a bit queasy after an hour of aerobatics.

Check the Vans aircraft link I posted...seating side by side. It's rated for aerobatics...a pretty fast single engine "kit plane". Fits Jim's USAF personality...those who fly combat aircraft are different than we mere mortals.

Kind of a funny happening a few years ago...Jim & I at the gun club I belong to. Rangemaster that day was ex USAF, a Sgt... Both long out of the service, but it was interesting to see them revert back to the officer/enlisted personalities.
