Pinzgauer versus Unimog?

Which reigns supreme? Just finished watching Thor and the movies Pinzgauer is very basses.

I will own an ultimate 4x4 oneday.

I wonder how our Humvee will hold up against them? I know nothing about the Humvees. Are they full of electronic controls or are they mechanical?

Pinzgauers and Unimogs are very different beasts. Which one reigns supreme depends upon how one measures supremacy. Are we talking about the volcanic rocks in Johnson Valley, or the Tank Trap at the park outside Hollister? Or maybe somewhere else?

At the end of the day, the ability to cover difficult ground comes down to which one has the most articulation, gear ratio and torque. Oh, and also conditions, and which tire the contestants are wearing.

They look like they can tip over so easily. The center of gravity look so high. I have seen first hand what a Uni-mog can do in the jungles of Meseeco as a rider not a driver. I wish I had a crack at driving that thing there.

This thread is worthless without pictures.

How about a well set up Synchro Westy?

That Synchro is cool ! Not a Westy though, is it ?

Are Pinzgauers as versatile as Unimogs ? I have seen Unimogs with all sorts of attachments doing all sorts of useful things. That seems to be a big plus for the Unimog for sure.

I don't think a Syncro will do as well off road as the other vehicles mentioned. It would be better on the highway tho.

Yes, the high Cg means they are much more likely to tip over - one thing to help with that is an adjustable ht. suspension.

It would be interesting to see details of the various drive systems used if anyone has pics -- the Hummer uses geared drive wheels which are driven from the top.

The problem is that a drive thru the center of a wheel (e.g an axle with CV joints) really reduces your ground clearance.

The ultimate solution was invented a long time ago by Guess Who and uses electric wheel hub motors.

Tank treads are better than anything. No need to worry about high-centering.

I have done alot of off-roading in a Pinzgauer and while very capable, the Unimog will (pardon the pun) climb all over it!

Rover V8 aluminum block, gasoline or propane. A light load for the helicopter, it has an aluminum skin.
