Anybody ever get vertigo type symptoms?

I was in bed last night reading, when I felt a jolt in my head and my vision went double (?) and it felt like the room was spinning. I put down my book and closed my eyes. After awhile, it went away, but it's very unsettling. Got up this am to take a leak and my balance was off. I kept going to the left. Mild headache today, but walking ok now.

This occured a couple of times over 10+ years ago. Blood pressure is good. No real health problems.

Any ideas?

Get yourself to an MD! Sounds like it could be a TIA.

It doesn't sound completely like this...

Labyrinthitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

...but I had a bout of that about 5 or 6 years ago at work, and it was very unsettling... the room was spinning and I felt nauseated.

An ENT or internist can give you some tips on how to get rid of it... there is a protocol of lying on a bed with your head off the edge, turning it different ways to get the otoliths moved to where they're not causing a problem. That worked to a pretty good degree with me. Also was told to take Benadryl and just stay in bed until it got better.

my wife gets vertigo, occasionally. it is not accompanied by a headache nor a jolt sensation, in her case. i think you need to be seen immediately.

Thanks guys. I think I've been having some inner ear problems and have been meaning to get them checked. I just assumed it was damage from that darned rock and roll when I was younger.

Go get it check out. Two years ago, I woke up with a head ache and spinning. thinking nothing of it and went back and rest for another 30 minutes. My wife pushed me to go and have it check out. I had no symptoms of a stroke by the ER doc. The CAT scan was negative. My sister fought them for an MRI. The next day, my doc came back to tell me that I had a minor stroke because they can now see it in the MRI. I had the same symptom about 2 months before that and went away after about a minutes. I didn't think anything of it. The same thing every doctors ask me was if the room is spinning or I was spinning. One of those symptom is usually inner ear issue. For me, the room was spinning. ALso check your blood pressure. During an event of a stroke, your blood peressure willl shoot up to help clear the clot. As least that was what I was told.

Go get it check out buddy. It is not worth waiting. I didn't want to go because I an healthy as a horse. I was only 42 at the time. They could not find anything wrong with me after a whole week of testing. everything was normal beside the blood pressure. They think it might stress related. Good luck

Jeff

Get it checked out! My 22 year old brother in law had similar symptoms, after a trip to the ER and an MRI it turned out to be a brain tumor. Fortunately it was benign and has now nearly all been removed, but it's not something to mess around with. Based on his experience I would strongly suggest engaging a neurologist early, he got a lot of bad diagnosis and advise until he finally visited with a specialist.

I had similar symptoms last year when I had an inner ear infection. It started out like you described and then I got a fever with chills and vomiting. That was one terrible week.

I've had something similar.

Woke up one night and everything was spinning really hard. Crazy, where I couldn't stand up.

I had no idea what it was, but it was a little alarming, esp. when it wouldn't go away.

Went to the ER, and they said it was vertigo.

I'd had it mildly in the past, a kind of "positional" vertigo, that would happen when I was working under the car, etc. Where your head is face up, then to the side, then standing up, etc. - changing positions a lot.

I didn't get it much after that, but when I did, the over the counter motion sickness medications always stopped it cold. I would get Bonine, but I think most of the OTC motion sickness stuff has the same active ingredient.

As odd as it sounds, I think mine was stress related. It happened to me mostly around 10 years ago, when I was working on matters where tens or hundreds of millions, and people's jobs and livelihood, were on the line. And working crazy hours (12-15 a day) 7 days a week. I've slowed that down, gotten in good physical shape again, and haven't had any vertigo for at least 6 or 7 years.

Meniere's disease? Do you have tinnitus and/or a loss of hearing?

Inquire about acoustic neuroma, too. Will show up on MRI if somebody is looking for it.

Sadly, no appointment yet, but I'm calling tomorrow.

I think there has been some loss of hearing, as I have a hard time hearing certain things or people.

I have days where I can't hear a thing my wife says...

My father in law suffers from periodic bouts of vertigo. For him it is triggered by diet and they have traced it to MSG. They went to Captain D's the other night for dinner on the recommendation of a neighbor. Apparently the food was loaded with MSG - he had a three day bout with vertigo thereafter.

I have this thing called beer induced vertigo.
In severe cases it leads to temporary amnesia, and a WTF feeling when waking up...
