Why did porsche have to build the Cayenne?

I had not been to a club meeting in 7 years. I dont remember ever seeing a cayenne there. Thats probably the problem.. I have to say I will not attend again. No shortage of fake 30s coach purse carrying types around. I could not have imagined what would have happen if a guy showed up in a rusted 914. Yes this a rant. Porsche club has lost its way. Porsche in general. Too many Fakes not enough car people. I understand in the mall parking lot this is going to happen. Not at a Porsche club function. This is not a anti sex in the city, mid thirties , professional female rant. This is a what the heck does it mean to be in the Porsche club rant. I think its time for a classic Porsche club. No fakes please. And if your wondering my 28 year old sister drives a Cayenne

Porsche built the Cayenne to make money... Specifically in the American market which has always been very important to Porsche.

Our local Ferrari club is pretty much split between the classic cars and the new. It's not a nice "culture" because of the snobbery and attitude.
Our Porsche club on the other hand welcomes all. Including early 924, 944, 928 and the latest water cooled cars.

I don't particularly like the Cayenne either but they shouldn't be excluded from a club IMO.
With the rising cost of gasoline and peoples attitude I think the Cayenne days are numbered anyway.

Porsche had to build the Cayenne to stay independent.

Hmm.... they're no longer independent. Time to axe the Cayenne!

What the hell are you complaining about man? I'd rather look at those gals as opposed to some crusty sob griping about the 'water coolers'.

Got to ride in a new Cayenne Turbo today. Amazingly fast in a straight line, comfort, interior was tasteful, its a very nice ride. Hope your sister wasn't the blond next to the maroon in the above picture because I just violated her mentally.

I like the old Porsche club idea, I don't go to mine local as there isn't much interest in older cars.

I was part of a focus group with Porsche before it came out. Basically they wanted to fill the hole in the demographics of their buyers to keep them through their mid 30's to late 40's. They were losing too much market share to the SUV market. If ya can't lick em join em I guess. We did beg them for a 914 replacement. They alluded to one coming at the time. Two years later they introduced the B car. We told them we didn't want the SUV. They said it's simple build an SUV or we won't be able to stay the company we are and may have to sell shares to another car company. We were like 'ok build an SUV.

Porsche has always been kept in business by poseurs, fakes, status-seekers, and general dildos and losers. Who was buying the 911s brand new in the 80s? Rich lawyers who wanted to look flashy. The Cayenne is just the modern equivalent of that. I don't like it, but then, I don't like SUVs at all. If I had to have an SUV, it might be a Cayenne, but I would look at it the same way I do my dishwasher - an appliance that's needed.

If the Cayenne is needed to keep Porsche in business, and keep being able to make other kinds of cars that I'm going to want to drive when they're 30 years old, I say have at it.

I'm sure that's in the marketing files somewhere.

No way Volkswagen needs the Cayenne. They have the Touareg. On the bright side the 2013 Cayenne and Touareg will feature a unique and trend setting feature. The Tampax dispenser.
